Why are there no African teams in the Ice-Hockey world championship?

Shopping List in Order of Importance:

1. Clean Water

2. Food

3. Hockey Skates

4. Hockey Stick

They are still trying to get past #2.

Being a great athlete doesn't necessarily translate to the ice.

Ice Hockey world championships, your country has to qualify for them Mexico is getting better but I don't think they qualified

this year. For years, I have wondered why the Dutch who are among the best skaters in the world are somehow not better at hockey .. and yet they have many more years of on-ice experience than most any African .. but yes a lot of it also has to do with the fact that they have other priorites such as survival.

Because in general, Ice Hockey players wear very loose fitting shorts in practice. As such, it is easy for a "heavily gifted" man to accidentally flop out and start leaving 3 tracks on the ice, if you know what I mean.

That's the same reason you don't find a lot of us Cajuns playing ice hockey too.

and really lol about your question. i know we africans are the best athletes of the world, that's why we have so many haters. :P

hahaha at nips reply. i don't know the girl, and i don't know if i should give her this credit, but the jamaica thing may be cause of how luge (a winter sport) is very popular with jamaicans, and also that they are into winter sports...maybe not hockey but other activities.

And they also have a lack of ice surfaces, and leagues. :) I believe that South Africa is the only African nation in the IIHF, but I',m not sure if they have a national team program or not

As far as the best athletes in the world, that comment is more racist than you think. Professional athletes have traditionally come from lower economic classes, independent of race. Seeing that you are american, and a certain segment of the population has been unfairly restricted to the lower economic classes then I understand how you might think that.

Two quick things: soccer is an international sport where no race dominates; and

american sports history has shown, if you care to go back long enough that the newest entrant to the society, who started at the bottom, tended to dominate sports in the society since sports was the best alternative for success. Plain fact of it is; a resident of a slum is more willing to take the necessary licks in basketball, football or boxing to succeed, they are less worried about it affecting their chances of getting into Harvard.

Black people are not better athletes than white, yellow, brown or any other people. Your society has given them fewer options for them to succeed then other people, and they approach sports with more on the line to similarly talented athletes from other racial segments in American society.

You have to be careful when you generalize about that because racial success in sports is often associated beliefs with racial inferiority in mental pursuits. Life is more complicated than your simple statement is making it.

And one other note on hockey; it is quickly becoming a white collar sport in North America, where even in Canada money spent on training overcomes talent. If you look at any international sport, it is dominated by the country that can produce the largest following of the sport: Rugby by Australia, Soccer by Brazil; cricket by India. As hockey is priced out of the people's sport in Canada, our national team will weaken as well.

I think Chris Rock said it best at one of his stand-ups: "Basketball, football, baseball, we all excel at those sports! We even have Tiger Woods clearing out the white golfers! Once we black people get over the cold tempuratures, we'll take over hockey too!!"

Princess I think that is , like, a REALLY good question! I mean, like, those other black dudes who did the bobsledding thing, they like, never had any snow.....so like, why would african teams need ice? they have everything else they need, like, oh wait, do they like have homes????

Try Jamaica. Srsly.

Edit: I know where Jamaica is. I was just thinking of cold sports/warm places. Bobsledding? Gah!
