Campfire Friday: Pagans, does old = authentic?

Do you consider a religious belief or practice more authentic and valid if it is old? Does standing the test of time matter? Do you create your own practices to suit your needs?

UPG: I think the closer you get to the original source, the closer you are to the truth of that particular cultural gods, yes.

For example I give more credence to Judaism then I do Christianity or Islam.

That is strictly a personal opinion.

I create personal practices though sure. I share my first and last drink of beer with the wights. Nothing "old" about that, it's just what I do. I leave apples instead of porridge for my house wights because my kids can make less of mess with it. So far they are happy with it so I won't complain.

    No I don't believe old = authentic.

I do create my own practices to suit me.

I suppose I do look at it like that. I believe polytheism over monotheism precisely because it is ancient, whereas monotheism, nontheism and atheism are recent innovations.

I see my religion 'Hellenismos' as being the worlds oldest universal religion.

Not really but the older version can serve as a model for the new.

Hahahaha. no. My religion is reborn and new every day. However, it is also based on old ideas as well as new ones.
