can someone tell me how to get the starter out of a 97 ford explorer the bottom of it is undone i cant get in?

there to get the top bolt out . do you have to move something or drop something? any help is appreciated. (step by step please ) thanks so much

ok got the starter out went and had it tested and after all that it came back OK grrrrrrr... lol

    The top bolt is a pain in the neck. You will need a 3/8" extension with a universal joint on the socket. The extension will fit across the top of the starter at a slight angle - once on the bolt, it's a walk in the park.

    When you reinstall it, put a piece of tape across the bolt and press it into the socket - and install it the same way you removed it.
