What is the point of a cat?

Ok I sound horrible but! why do I have a cat? I rescued him from a shelter a year ago. He sleeps all day, I get no affection from him and whenever I go towards him to pick him up he runs in the opposite direction?

He's spoilt rotten and gets lots to eat (which is all he cares about). Why do I bother with him?????? whats the point?? are all cats like this??

Update:

I see! so then with a cat, you just shove food in front of it and you want that?

Sorry, but I dont like being judged by a person who does not know me from a bar of soap!

Update 2:

Yes, I play with him, he has catnip, three sleeping baskets, he has top range food even when my own cupboard is empty. People get mad with me as he comes first.

I belong to a cat site and have studied their body language.

I was very into it at first, but now the only time he shows emotion is when its meal time.

I see some cats are loving they purr they play, I guess my cat is not like that.

Update 3:

Osnap I did'nt ask why I should own a cat I asked what is the point of a cat?

Well if you love animals you know that there going too be part of your family... show him affection pet him let him know you love him ....some cats dont like to be picked up at all ..some do cats are very independent and like to do as they please... our cat we had now for almost 18 years he thinks hes the boss he dont like us to play loud music ,or slam doors, or yell too loud , he stretches across my sisters bed to sleep if she moves him to move over he hisses at her and makes a evil face lol ...hes like a little old man now he likes his breakfast on time in the morning... and goes outside about and hour and comes back and sleeps too about3 pm ... then eats and lays down till about 6 and eats again goes out till about 8 sits up with us too pet him and talk to him... till about 10;30 then hes off too bed till morning lol i know his whole routine... you love your cat regardless of how he acts towards you hes still a part of your family... he must be special too you after all you saved his life and that's a great gift you gave too him ....who knows what kind of life he had before you be patent good things come to those who wait as im sure your cat already found out....unconditional love is what its all about .. and our cat is a grouch but we love him and he knows it.....

How are we supposed to tell you why you have a cat? Clearly, if you own one, you should be the one with the answer to that.

Personally, I think you're just angry because you care and give a lot to the cat and you don't feel as though you've received enough love back from it as you think you should.

You should just feel good about what you've given to the cat and try to accept his personality since all cats are different.

You asked that in the details but whatever lol.

NBo not all cats are like this. cats are not like dogs and do have very unique amoung themselves personalities that cannot be defined through breed or anything else.

I have dealt with many strays anbd rescues over the years and I can tell you that if you learn to understand your cat's personality then the emotion will follow. How do you inteact with your cat? Do you play? What are you feeding your carnivore that he is all spoiled? I hope it is not dry food which can cause lazyness besides many other health problems. Do you understan cat body language? what the different postitions of the ears mean? the tail?

I am certainly under the assumption that you are a very good person but I feel that most likely you need to learn more about your cat and make the adjustments. Best of luck

The only reason you should need is that you saved an animal's life because you care enough about him to let him live with you for the rest of his life and you love him unconditionally. If this is not the case, why did you adopt him in the first place? Maybe you keep trying to pick him up when he doesn't want you to or just doesn't like being picked up, so attempts to do so will have him annoyed with you. You have to be loving and understanding about your pet's personality, especially if he came from a home where he was mistreated.

Loving cats respond directly to their owners. You and this cat are not a good match if you're even thinking what the whole purpose is of having one.

Since you aren't getting anything out of being an owner, and your cat is not bonded to you at all, do him the favor of finding him another home where he can get companionship and interaction that better fits his needs.

Well cats are kind of like us but they have there habitats things they are used to do you know like we have things to do the cat is just being itself.

No. Maybe you remind him of his former owner. Sounds like you should let someone else give it a crack. You really dont give the impression that you want an animal.
