Cats don't have to mate with a male to stop being in heat.

I don't believe they can die from being in heat.

I'm not exactly sure how long it lasts.

Talk with your vet, discuss when is the best time to get her spayed.

In the mean time, try and keep her inside. You don't want kittens do you?

She won't die from being in heat. She may contract a urinary tract infection, but I'm sure the first heat is fine.

Just make sure to take her to the vet as soon as she is finished with this cycle.

Your best bet is to get any female cats spayed at 4 months of age, because most cats don't go into heat until 6 months.

You are confusing ferrets with cats. They go into heat for about a week, and then again three weeks later. They will go into heat about every month. Get her spayed NOW!

Unaltered females are at risk of a deadly uterine infection called Pyometra everytime they go in heat. She will go in and out of heat every couple of weeks for 3-7 days at a time until she is bred or spayed. It's hard to catch them between heats this time of year so just go ahead and have it done. Please have her spayed ASAP.

This is Pyometra. The name means "pus-filled uterus". You DO NOT want your kitty develop this. it is serious and deadly.
