I want to see a secular world government in place in my lifetime. It won't happen, but that's my hope.

I also hope we colonize another planet in my lifetime.

The hope for mankind is that each generation will be smarter, better educated, and more successful than the generation of their parents. Oh, and also more able to understand and appreciate the philosophies and religions of other cultures so that war becomes less and less likely. One might hope that in a century, or so, all people will live in peace and prosperity and a sense of mutual respect.

I would hope that we could build a society based on reason and rational thought. In this society we would idealize and promote people who are actually worthy of praise, unlike our current state, which seems to be about hip hop music and reality tv stars. With more people working towards the common good with an emphasis on learning and creation, a better society would have to emerge.

Often times I feel like we're being held back from a better life by how lazy and stupid our people are. Society says its okay, so it must be okay... Most athiests feel like religion plays a role in that form of apathy.

It is my hope that one day we'll make our laws and important policy decisions based on logical reasoning and rational discourse rather than irrational fervor.

I hope that children can receive good educations so that the USA will no longer lag behind the rest of the developed world in math, science, and other fields.

I hope that schools can soon teach the Theory of Evolution without religious people throwing temper tantrums over it, and demanding that we teach fairy tales alongside proven science.

(Oh, and for you ID people, a scientific theory is not the same as a "theory" in everyday talk. Look it up.)

It is my hope that we'll stop fighting wars over whose God has the biggest balls.

If I think of any more, I'll add them.

You said you wanted to hear from atheists but you also said open to anyone, so here goes:

I do not believe that their is any hope for mankind without God. And yes, I know that is not based on intellect, logic or reasoning....but on faith. Sorry.

Best thing about being an atheist is its a non-stance, it just defines something I am NOT. No one in society calls themselves a non-pluber, or non-mechanic. The point is this, if religion disappeared we would all just be humans, if religiousity won out people would still war over who read the blasted book right. I look forward to a clean, peaceful world were people are nice to people to simple be nice and not just to win brownie points.

    Truth.

Here's an example: in developing vaccinations against diseases like polio, a combination of scientific discovery and intelligent collective (government) action have done more good for us in the second half of the 20th century than religion has done in the entire history of mankind.

If you had to choose between religion and the polio vaccine, you'd have to be utterly insane to choose religion.

My hope is that Religeous factions all get together and come up with a dose of reality and come together. If Religions all interpreted goodness and Law in the same fashion, there would NOT be Wars.

Easy. Remember Jesus came into the world and the world knew him not? People don't believe in GOD or the one he sent, his son Jesus, because they do not know either of them. We are physical beings that need to see, feel, and touch. Put all these three together and we have what we call the "experience". If one believes in the creation then that does do away with the cave man theory. Even evolutionist claims that the cave man looked about and above and asked where am I? Who am I? Who created this vastness above and around me? Where did I come from? Here it is 2008 and those that claim the cave man theory still do not believe in GOD or his son Jesus. They are still trying to prove the big bang! Theory. The "experience” does not include the GOD "experience” why? "WHY" did Jesus come into the world and we knew him not? When Jesus come again do you think that that people have prepared to know him the second time? They do not believe because they have not been taught. We were instructed to teach our children did we. No we did not. And to believe in GOD would hold us accountable for our actions look at us now any thing gos and we don't have to be responsible for our actions. We can and we do talk any way we want to, cuss, steal, and murder, rob, make babies out of wedlock. We would have to stop having sex out side of marriage? stop sleeping around spreading STD s. we would have to eat healthy, go to bed at a healthy time, love our neighbor as our selves, pay our worker a decent wage, no world hunger, we would be healthier, Oh my goodness we would have do the right things like respect our self, parents, children and our children would respect us. GOD is good. Man does not want what is good because he does not know that GOD is good. Man “knows” not and “has" not because he has "ask” not. It’s just that simple Isaiah 65:1 - 15 and John 14:13-14. we/man do not want to know or believe because we do not want to do what is right, it's too hard doing what is wrong is so much easier for us. Man longs and lives to do that which is bad and hurtful. Man does not know that living out side of God’s will is why we are led to slaughter like sheep at searing time. Email me at evelyn52murrah@yahoo.com if you would like research John 14: 13-17 I know how many feel. One must ask, then one will receive, then one will receive the spirit of truth that the world can not receive. If you seek you shall find. The world/people that don't seek nor ask how can they believe when the things of the world have blinded them to the point of sheep like behavior. We are so mentally, spiritually, sick to what is right in front of our eyes that we gladly take all the pills, psychoanalytic enlightenment talk, and gladly wash it all down with our favorite brand of beer & alcohol. Or we blame a group of others, for what ever the problem is? The world systems make a lot of money out of our being spiritually blind. It is kind of scary to put so much trust into a GOD that we have never seen isn't it? I have learned over a period of time to trust GOD. I know this sounds pretty bad on my part to say such a thing. But it is the truth. GOD has been so badly represented by some pretty misleading representatives that even we who love him now have had to learn to trust him and believe that he is real. The first time calling on GOD is a very personal scary experience and very patience learning "experience" because like a new born baby we have to learn to walk, talk, and form and grow and thrive like in a garden full of weeds. Weeding out the bad weeds from the healthy plant is work that is done by the Angles. as we, you and I who are working in the field that have asked and have grown in trust and love for our creator can only plant the seed of "asking" and water with the scriptures that are for setting things straight 2 Timothy 3:16 . And if any one is interested please read 2 Timothy 3:1-5 and e mail me if any one has any questions about the scriptures please email me I will be more than happy research with you. for those that are in reserve and not sure. GOD understand your fears trust is a hard thing to do after what you have been thru and what you see on the six and eleven o'clock news

Personally, I hope mankind grows up a little and starts accepting a little accountability for its effects on the planet, instead of leaving it in the hands of some metaphysical conceit. But maybe that's just me.

I think as an atheist....that if we just accept everyones beliefs that this world will naturally be better.....I can accept that a person loves their God..no matter what religion it is I dont think that people who believe are dumb.....I really think that if religion makes a person a better person then thats what they should do be religious.....I want people to be happy the more happy and not angry people are the better my life is...angry bitter people make the world around them miserable....for me and everyone around them.....so do what makes you happy and nicer and everyone will benefit from this
