Sciatic Nerve pain?

I am going on 17 weeks preg and this weekend I am getting sharp pains through my left butt-cheek down into my tail bone and it hurts and makes me hunch over.

I have been told it's my sciatic nerve getting pinched.

Does anyone know anything to help with this?

My cousin specializes and does prenatal massages. Will that help?

thanks!

Yes, if your cousin knows how to do the prenatal massages then you should go for it. My last one sat on my sciatic nerve. It was horrible, I would be holding my butt everywhere I went. It went away after she was born...the pain, not my butt I'm afraid.

It sounds like the sciatic nerve. I've had problems with that, but also with my tailbone being out of place, pinching the nerves. I saw a chiropractor for that, and it eventually did get better. A prenatal massage may also help, but I haven't tried that. Your best bet would be to ask your cousin specifically about it. Also, if your baby won't get off of the nerve, I have heard of putting something cold there to get baby to readjust. Try a bag of frozen vegetables or a can of pop. I hope that helps!

I have experienced several severe bouts of pinched sciatica: One instance, as luck....I should say unluck, I was forced to ride my bike 1 1/2 miles to work cuz my car broke down. I did that for a week and my back pain subsided. Another time, I went to a physical therapist and did some stretching exercises. I would lay on my back, bend leg, and pull the other knee toward my chest. Switch. Each time I visited I was able to pull the legs closer to the chest and the pain went away. **I think some Pilates exercises might help** I've tried muscle relaxers but they just made me 'high' and unable to work. I do take Ibus though if I'm in discomfort and that works. I also put the heating pad on my lower back for 20 minutes at a time over 2 hours, as needed. I haven't had severe pain in about a year. That was due to mopping at my job when I hadn't been conditioned for it. I was hurting the next day. I saw the therapist due to a work related injury. Hope my info helped and wasn't something you already knew.

Check here a very effective Sciatica Natural Treatment ( http://cure-sciatica.info/ )

Normally, I would not answer a question like this as my expertise is generally in medication but I had severe sciatica while I was pregnant with my 3rd child (after having had twins) and I had sciatica so bad that I was finding it difficult to walk. I tried massage therapy and physical therapy and could not take medication

I went to the chiropractor and the pain was instantly relieved. My hips and lower back were out of alignment because I had carried twins the year before. On occasion a Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) can also work but they usually only work on one joint at a time - the chiropractor will do your whole back which works faster. Anyone who does not believe in chiropractors will tell you they are quacks - don't listen.

I don't necessarily believe that chiropractors can cure things like diabetes but they can definitely relieve some types of back pain especially if a pinched nerve is involved which is usually the cause of sciatica.

You can have someone massage it, or I know a wonderful stretch that really helps with mine (and this is hard to explain) lay on your back, grab your ankle so your knee is bent and to the SIDE (like your trying to put your foot over your head)hehe, and pull your ankle up towards your face. You can take your knee and move it around to better hit the spot. It really stretches right in the spot that bothers you, I get sciatic pains all the time especially since I've become preg. and this always helps. If your still confused by this, email me and I'll try to explain it to you better.

I have pretty severe sciatic pain even when I am not pregnant. Going to the chiropractor really does help a lot. Massage I am sure would help too, I would do both if I were you. I am going to look into massage soon, I think I need both chiropratic and massage.....

I had that bad throughout my entire first pregnancy and there was nothing I could do about it. Tylenol is safe to take, so you could try that. Massage is helpful while you are getting it, but once it is done the pain comes back. Whatever you do, don't lie on the floor thinking a hard surface might help - I did that and got stuck there!!! As soon as I had my son the pain went away.

  • nothing really, I had it really bad with my second and they were going to induce me at 32 weeks if it didn't get any better but I said no and just put up with the pain...I couldn't even walk and I had a 2 yr old at the time who needed my care..

I had pain till I was 38weeks and started at 20 weeks and when it went BOY WAS IT A RELIEF....

Good luck and just try and push through it...

If you find something that works let me know cause im hoping I don't get it again with this pregnancy...

Nothing worked for me cause I had a severe case of it...
