My cat has a small sore on her stomach and another on her haunch. What could it be?
I was away from home for a week and a half and when I came back I noticed a small sore on my cat's belly. It doesn't look infected but its pinkish (close to her skin color) and scabby. I haven't noticed any changes in it for better or for worse. I just happened to notice another one on her rear haunch today (probably didn't notice it before because her fur is really thick there). I'm going back on vacation at the end of the week and don't know if this is something I should bring her to the vet for or not. I'd rather not spend the time/money if I don't need to (I tend to overworry about my cat and have brought her in unnecessarily before).
She's an indoor cat and my only pet. My first thought actually was ringworm... I'm not that worried about catching it myself so I'm not sure I want to race to the vet if that's all it is. I've had it before and its easy to treat. Mostly I'm wondering if it can be a symptom of something more serious.
Oh... and its not her nipple. The patch is definately bigger than that.
Percy you need to settle down and stop jumping to so many conclusions. First of all I was gone a week and a half ago for work and am now about to go on vacation. My cat is spoiled rotten and gets plenty of love, thank you very much. While I am away my boyfriend takes care of her. We live together so she is with someone she is familiar with. Ringworm is not painful, just a little itchy. In theory it could just be allowed to run its course. The reason I mentioned that I'm not afraid of getting it is because the post directly above you noted that I can catch it if that is what it is. The patch does not seem to be bothering her now so I'm closely monitoring it to decide if I should bring her to a vet over it or if its just a sore that will heal itself. The reason I am reluctant to bring her to the vet right away is because it is incredibly stressful for her and I'd rather not spend the time/money if its not necessary to stress her out more. She was just at the vet 2 weeks ago.

Try to treat it for a few days & see if it gets any better. If it doesn't,you need to go to the vet. Sometimes they need antibiotics & such. I had a cat that had to get a growth removed. It's so hard to tell about these things. Maybe you could just call him (Vet) up & ask him if he thinks it's something that he thinks needs his attention.

It is really not possible to diagnose from a description - and it would help to know if she gets outside or is an inside cat? Scabby patches where the hair falls out can be ringworm which you can also get from your cat so you would definitely want that taken care of. If they are sores from fighting with other cats outside, you should keep her in. I think a quick check at the vet is your best idea.

Ask friend and family members, they may know a thing or two. Maybe you cat has Herpes? No, I'm joking. But, maybe her nipple showed. If I were you I would wait a week or two and if it reddens or starts to get bigger go to the Vet. If it disappears after some time, there's nothing to worry about. But, I'm not a Vet therefore I'm not sure what it is and what you should do about it. That is what I would do though.

Wow - this is pretty sad. So you just came from vacation - and you're "going back on vacation at the end of the week". But when it comes to the well-being of your cat you'd "rather not spend the time/money" on it? That's pathetic! Vacations you'll gladly pay for but not medical care for the pet YOU are responsible for?
No one can diagnose your cat through the computer. So take this cat to a vet - or better yet - to the nearest animal shelter so that someone with some compassion and a sense of responsibility can adopt her.
Who's taking care of this cat while you on all your vacations? Do you just leave her a mound of food and leave her alone?
"My first thought actually was ringworm... I'm not that worried about catching it myself so I'm not sure I want to race to the vet if that's all it is." So if it won't harm YOU you'll just let it be? Geezus this is BEYOND pathetic!!!! Spending money on vacations and a "brand new motorcycle" and not the pet - shame on you!
