My laptop touchpad is way too sensitive, what can I do?
I am finding that the touchpad is causing me to click on things that I didn't mean to click on and it's getting very annoying. What can I do about this? I had this same model computer and brought it back to the store because the monitor would flash on and off just briefly and now this is my second time with the same model computer. The monitor is just fine on this one but the touchpad is really getting to me. It's a Toshiba Satellite if that helps.
Thank you all so much. I have to say that I love the computer other than those few little problems that I was having. I have never had a laptop before and it's taking some getting used to with the different settings and such. Adjusting the settings has fixed the problem but I'll still be getting a wireless mouse soon. Thanks again.

I assume you are using Vista but if not XP is relatively the same thing
Go to Start -> control panel -> Hardware and Sound -> Then click on mouse, somewhere in those settings should be the option to fine tune or turn down the sensitivity

With allot of operating system updates occurring these days what typically happens is the wrong mouse driver gets loaded (the default for a PS2 mouse.) While somewhat functional many of the sensitivity levels can leave the overall experience aggravating if not making the computer unusable. The other issue is this problem is somewhat difficult to identify. The best bet is to log onto the site for your laptops manufacturer and download the driver for the Touchpad device. Once downloaded, install it.
I followed the instructions on several sites that stated "Just go to the control panel and click on the settings tab." Only issue was, there was no settings tab.

You can try this. Click on your start button then on control button . Click on mouse. On mouse properties you can change several settings.
The reason I now have a laptop is because my Sis-in-law couldn't stand the touch pad. She gave me the laptop & went back to her desktop. The first thing I did was go buy another roller ball mouse like I have on my desktop & attach it to USB port. End of problem. The mouse fits in laptop case so it goes with me.

I tried an easier way, I put an iphone screen protector sheet(customized) on the touchpad, it becomes less sensitive now, try it, maybe it will work for you too.

Go to control panel click pointing devise/mouse and adjust the pointer sensitivity click apply and save. Use USB wired or wireless mouse, quicker and better than using the touch ad.

Yes, it does, I have a Toshie Satellite, as well. Go to control panel, click on Mouse, then click on Device Settings, highlight the synaptics pad, and then click Settings, and make the necessary changes.
Source(s): 2 and a half years with my Toshie, but, I use an Optical USB Mouse.. - 1 decade ago
usually there is a built in option for mouse sensitivity.
Go to controll panel and hard ware and devices and click on mouse and in the top tab, click settings and lower the sensitivity
