Christians, what if your family tried to convert you to another religion?

Would you immediately and publicly kill them?

----------------------------------------------------------------

If thy brother, the son of thy mother, or thy sin, or thy daughter, or the wife of thy bosom, or thy friend, which is as thine own soul, entice thee secretly, saying, Let us go and serve other gods, which thou hast not known, thou, nor thy fathers;

Namely, of the gods of the people which are round about you, nigh unto thee, or far off from thee, from the one end of the earth even unto the other end of the earth;

Thou shalt not consent unto him, nor hearken unto him; neither shall thine eye pity him, neither shalt thou spare, neither shalt thou conceal him:

But thou shalt surely kill him; thine hand shall be first upon him to put him to death, and afterwards the hand of all the people.

And thou shalt stone him with stones, that he die; because he hath sought to thrust thee away from the LORD thy God, which brought thee out of the land of Egypt, from the house of slavery.

Update 2:

17Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.

18For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.

19Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.

Matt 5:17-19

Update 3:

Amazing how easy it is to get Christians to distance themselves from their own texts.

    Well they would hate them.

Jesus actually does tell his disciples to "hate" their parents, children, family etc....

He tells them if they dont love him more than their family, friends, themselves, etc.... they wont get to Heaven

What a lovely guy that Jesus........

17Though the fig tree should not blossom

And there be no fruit on the vines,

Though the yield of the olive should fail

And the fields produce no food,

Though the flock should be cut off from the fold

And there be no cattle in the stalls,

18Yet I will exult in the LORD,

I will rejoice in the God of my salvation.

19The Lord GOD is my strength,

And (I)He has made my feet like hinds' feet,

And makes me walk on my high places.

Why this is directed at Christian's I haven't a clue, BUT no I would not. I would pray for them and hope that they would understand the FREE WILL that God gave us. My family doesn't try to convert me however because they believe in free will as well. AND most of them are also Catholic. This really is a question for Jewish people as they are the ones still following the old testament. Repost for them.

That was Old Testament and Christian's have a new covenant with God and that says love thy God and love thy neighbor. Your statement has nothing to do with Christian's.

The Old Testament is not our text. We can use it as a guide but we are not under the Old Law, we are under the New covenant with Jesus.

Nope. I follow the laws of the New Testament.

Things that happened in the Old Testament are old laws.

Find a New Testament passage and I'll have to think about it more closely.

Funny that you ask Christians that. That's a Jewish text. Given that it says that, we Jews are supposed to just smile and "accept Jesus into our hearts" because some Xtian tells us to? Why would it say that if God was going to change His mind and send some guy to save everybody, even though it was contrary to everything His Holy Book already said?

Yes my family did...I did a lot of prayer and a lot of research...and found my home with in the Catholic Church...which my family was not at all happy with. But now they are starting to give less hate and starting ask questions...If you knew my family it is a mini miracle.

That is an OLD TESTAMENT quote, dearest. If you're going to try to pin me in my beliefs, perhaps you'd better try asking me about something other than Judaism.

On the psychological point of view I'd very much belief they would convert despite what his previous form of social conformation was.

Religion is the puriest form of social conformation, you don't want to get isolated from your family thus you convert to whatever their belief is. Very simple to answer but many people just won't accept the truth.

A very simple experiment: Would you remain heterosexual if everyone around you is homosexual?

Of couse you are going to label yourself as homosexual, because heterosexual is not an accepted form of social conformism, and you will get constant bash, hate stare for it. So for survival reasons we convert to other's belief.
