Why don't stories like this get reported more often/more widely?

I am 100% a Tampa Bay Lightning Fan after reading this.

http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story?page=jo...

Great story. Thoughts?

Update:

Habs Fan- Of course not, the more people that hear about the good in Hockey the better.

Update 2:

Kurfadle- Yeah, I remember hearing about it, but I didn't know the back story. Now that TBay has Matt Carle it has even more significance.

That's one of the sweetest things I have ever read in my life. Honest to God.

The whole Tampa organization should be EXTREMELY proud of themselves. Because when you think about it......they didn't have to pick him at all.....they could have used that pick and chose a healthy boy that they could actually use.

    Great Story.

  • This is the kind of story that sets hockey apart. It is not widely reported because it is not sensationalized enough. No backstabbing or stuff like that. This is one that gets added on as the last story of the day to leave you on a positive note after all the bad stuff they just told you. But great story none the less

It shows that money isn't everything! It's always been said that hockey players are classier than others - this proves it - again.

Correct me if I am wrong but, if they don't sign him to a contract in 2 years (and it goes to reason that they won't) doesn't he go back into the draft? He could be picked up again in 2010!

I have a good feeling this move helped a few free agents with their decisions to play for Tampa Bay.

I grew up with a kid who was a great swimmer, and had the same condition and had to start before high school, its extremely tough for the kids, but i wish him the best of luck, it was a real class act by the lightning

That's an act of greatness. They didn't have to pick him, they could have just read his letter and not thought about him ever again... But they put him on their team.

    Such a nice story.
