Any moms experience their feet geting larger after pregnancy?
I know it's pretty typical for a women's feet to swell during pregnancy, but has anyone experienced their feet actually getting larger to the point that they go up in shoe sizes? I know it sounds kind of silly, but my husband and I are talking about babies in our near future and it's been one of those crazy things I've worried about for a long time. My mom said her feet grew a few sizes, mostly after having my younger brother. My husband picks on me because he thinks it's petty and stupid (hey pal, it's not your body that will never be the same!), but hey, I like my shoe collection, like having small feet and I've got a lot of money invested in my figure skates! haha I'm just wondering if it's not something that happens to everyone or if it's something I totally shouldn't worry about. And yeah, yeah, I know the world will be all fabulous and wonderful when the kid shows up, but have a sense of humor and clue me in on your experiences. :)

Yes, I went up 1/2 a size last time. Now here's a funny thing: when I started lifting weights seriously my feet went down a half size - I never figured out why that was, but it was not in my imagination. I had to get new ice skates myself!
And maybe you can sympathize....I had custom SP Teri's made, my first time in custom skates, in January of this year. Now I'm pregnant! It's not that I mind being pregnant but I am heartsick about my skates! Not only am I off the ice for the duration but I'm not sure what I'll have to step into when I get back on the ice. I know I can get them stretched like you do when you have a growing kid, but...they're CUSTOMS! It kills me, and I just can't think about it because I can feel my blood pressure rising.

I know you're probably thinking it takes a lot of nerve for a guy to answer this question, LOL, but so far I haven't seen a real explanation here of what's behind this. I came across the answer to this long ago in doing research about my own flat feet.
During pregnancy, your body cranks up the production of a substance called elastin, which causes tissues in your body to be more flexible and stretchable (to aid in getting Baby through the birth canal, if I remember correctly).
Your feet are, inch for inch, the body's most complex assembly of bones, ligaments and tendons, some of which constitute the longitudinal and transverse/metatarsal arches. At the same time you're producing elastin, you're putting on extra weight, and this combination can cause your arches to flatten out, maybe only a bit and perhaps temporarily, but I remember hearing some end up with truly flat feet, permanently, as a "souvenir" of their pregnancy.
My own feet flattened out as a teen, and the foot that flattened out the most became longer than my other foot, so I know it wasn't just a normal aspect of growing (my feet were still growing at the time).
My suggestion, especially if you've got an expensive shoe collection or custom footwear, would be to support your arches really well during your pregnancy, to prevent your feet from becoming flatter and longer/wider. Pay attention to those gellin' ads, haha...Although having flat feet often isn't painful or a serious problem for most of us, you might as well preserve your arches if you can. :-)
Why not speak to your obstetrician about this if you're concerned, before it's too late? It seems pretty common, and from all the reading I've done, once your feet become flatter as an adult, they usually stay that way.

Yes i went from an 8 1/2 sneaker to a 9. I have a very narrow foot and it seems to be that my foot grew in length. On the same token some of my G/F's had no problems with there shoes after the birth of there baby's.

I went from a size 5 shoe to size 6 1/2 since I had my first daughter. I went up to a 6 with her and then went up to 6 1/2 when I was preg. with my second daughter...I'm currently 7 months pregnant with our 3rd baby and my shoe size is still the same

I am still in the same size shoe, my feet didn't even get swollen.. I am sure it really depends on the person.. however, if this did happen to your mother..there is a good chance it could happen to you also..everyones different, hope this helps!

Geez I hope not because I'm seven weeks pregnant and I have big feet to begin with lol.
But I don't think so.....mine didn't grow in my first pregnancy. I had to wear bigger shoes because I got so swollen but after I gave birth went back to my regular shoes.

It isn't something you should worry about statistically speaking. Only 1 out of 100 (approx.) women experience an increase in foot size. Don't worry about it. Hope that helps!
