How do you lose a MAJOR amount of weight?

I am 6'1, age 34, male and have been overweight my entire life. I weigh about 385 pounds. I have tried to lose weight several times throughout my life and have had moderate success but not permanent success. This is affecting my social life and my health and I'm about to go crazy if I can't get this part of my life under control. I have a great job, make good money but I'm not happy anymore. It feels like life is passing me by because of my weight. Please answer my question only if you take it seriously. I would really like to hear from someone who has done this successfully as well. I do not want to have any kind of surgery, unless absolutely necessary.

I ended up losing 60lbs in 4 months on Weight Watchers followed by doing cardio for 30 min 6 days a week. Weight watchers was great because I could do it online and it gives you the tools to make good choices. even now when i'm in a store (5 years later) i will look at the nutritional info and figure out how many points are in that item.

Also try the Joshi Holistic detox. it's about an 8 week plan, and is more about changing your eating style rather than weight loss, but i lost 35lbs on the plan.

Diet and exercise. I have been very successful with weight watchers in the diet area. And I like Beachbody's programs for an in home workout routine. TurboJam and Power 90 are especially good. You have to stick with the programs. It won't come off over night, but you can consistently lose 10 pounds per month without starving yourself. At your weight probably more than that. If you eat because you are stressed out, seeing a counselor could also help.

Well, you really have two options, losing weight in a healthy way or not healthy way.

Either way the one thing you must MAKE SURE you do is set your mind on it. Be determined and realize how important losing weight is and you will be able to have great will power and self control.

One thing you should really steer clear of is sodium. Stay away from diet coke, top ramen, salty popcorn, and salty peanuts or crackers. Sodium will make you retain water weight which keeps you bloated and makes losing weight hard.

Also be sure to cut out potatoes and starches. White flour turns into sugar once digested and adds a lot of weight.

also, you can try to steer clear of foods that people naturally over eat. Like pizza, and other food shaped like pizza, you typically eat it fast and don't realize how much you have eaten before your body digests. The same goes for cereal.

Eat light fruits like water melon and cantelope, and blue berries.

and steer clear of fatty meats and make sure if you eat protein to get lean cut foods.

and try the lean cuisines sold in super markets, they work well.

and if you REALLY want a product that works try Alli. i had a lot of luck with Alli, just beware that if you eat more then 15 grams of fat per meal you will have some disgusting side effects, so it really makes you stick to your diet :)

you need to admit that you have an unhealthy addiction to food. eating unhealthily will not get you to your current weight alone. you eat massive quantities and probably snack all day long. you might want to consider something like seeing a therapist or an addiction specialist. at that weight you wont live to be 50. surgery is not necessary in any case. you must change your relationship to food and how you use food as entertainment. take walks everyday but start out slow big guy. good luck
