    Romeo and Juliet in Sarajevo

Original Air Date: May 10, 1994

Written and Directed by John Zaritsky

    Produced by Virginia Storring

The international press named the couple 'Romeo and Juliet.' He was Bosko Brckic, a twenty-four-year-old Serb. She was twenty-five-year-old Admira Ismic, a Muslim. Together, they tried to escape the war in Sarajevo and marry. But late in the afternoon of May 19, 1993, on a bridge leading out of Sarajevo, they died in each other's arms, shot down by snipers in the hills overlooking the besieged city. On the one-year anniversary of their deaths, as the tragic struggle over former Yugoslavia continues, FRONTLINE pieces together the story of this couple's life and their struggle to build a future together in the midst of war and in defiance of the centuries-old Balkan conflict. [90 minutes]

The 2 people in the film were my age. I still remember how stunned I was seeing their photo in the paper. It was so sad.

Grizzly Man was directed by Werner Herzog (one of the greatest directors alive today), it was pretty Good. I liked Encounters at the End of the World more, though, maybe it's just that it's fresher in my mind.

F for Fake is a really good film, and, as we all know, Orson Welles is a genius.

The Errol Morris documentaries are really good, specifically Fog of War and The Thin Blue Line.

Louis Malle made a couple of really good documentaries, I liked Calcutta and And the Pursuit of Happiness the best.

And Martin Scorsese's documentaries about music are interesting. I like the Rolling Stones, and Bob Dylan.

That's really the extent of my knowledge of documentary films though, I more interested in narrative films, but if I had to pick one I'd probably go for F for Fake.

Shoah (multi-language, 1985) For 8 hours, people who lived through the Holocaust tell their stories.

Titicut Follies (1967) by Frederick Wiseman. A frightening look at the warehousing of mental patients. There are several other good docs by Wiseman. Look him up on imdb.com

Point of Order (1964) Made from original footage of the Army vs. Sen. Joseph McCarthy hearings of 1954. The amount of power that McCarthy had was frightening. This film captures his downfall.

Woodstock (1970) About the legendary music festival of 1969.

    Contemporary docs:

The Corporation (Don't miss the rendition of "We Wish You a Merry Christmas")

    An Inconvenient Truth

    Supersize Me

    Fahrenheit 911

Not a documentary, but the most whacko and worst cautionary tale ever made:

Tell Your Children, aka, Reefer Madness (1936)

    Lost in La Mancha (2002)

Really showed what a director goes through to make a film or in this case not complete a film due to the endless problems.Terry Gilliam must be a cursed director as nothing seems to go right on any of his films(Heath ledger died before completing his new movie as well).

This documentary realy shows the stress and heartache a director goes thru to try and get his work to screen and finaly admit defeat in this case.

    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0308514/

I also enjoyed Vivian Kubrick's making of The shining and the documentary Hearts of darkness on apocalypse now,

suited documentary ever: status interior the Shadows Of Motown- that's the real tale of the main helpful band in pop music. They recorded extra type one hits than the Beatles, Elvis and the Rolling Stones mixed, yet no one knew who they have been till now the action picture got here out.

I really don't get why people rate Supersize me so highly??? If you eat junk food like McDonalds 3 times a day, EVERY day for a month, then of course it's going to do bad things to your body! D'oh! Like anything, it should be eaten in moderation.

Anyway, fave docs; The world at war, Bowling for columbine, and (if it counts?) The Beatles anthology.

Project Grizzly was hilarious and great. I also enjoyed Grizzly Man. I apparently wish there were more documentaries about bears.

    - Super Size Me: Really hit me as to not only how unhealthy fast food can be...but WHY (why is always more important to me)

    - God Grew Tired of Us: Story of 4 African Lost Boys (refugess from genocide going on over there) who come to America and experience quite a culture shock.

Aileen, which was about Aileen Wuornos. This really made me sad and feel sorry for her! If you've seen the film Monster you'll know who i'm talking about. If not watch both. Amazing.
