What was the most unusual, but practical wedding gift that you received?

I'm just curious. We are getting married next Friday. When we went to get our license, we got a surprise. My fiance's cousin is the Recorder of Deeds at the courthouse where we had to go. When she noticed that we were there in her office to apply for the license, she ended up paying for it ($51) as a wedding gift to us. I thought that was really nice, and made an unusual, but practical gift.

For my bridal shower, one of my good friends gave me a laundry basket filled with really practical items for our home. Laundry detergent, dryer sheets, paper towels, toilet paper, tissues, tooth paste, shower cleaner, sponges, air freshener, scented candles, mouth wash, windex, towels, wash cloths, q-tips, cotton balls, bandaids, duct tape, etc.

That gift was a lifesaver when we moved into our new place after the wedding!!

Do some reconnaissance work. Go over to their apartment, if they live together that is, and see what they are lacking. Or get them something that is practical but a splurge they wouldn't ordinarily make, like an espresso machine. Or get them some pots, pans and bakeware. You can NEVER have too much cookware! Or get them things for the kitchen that most people forget about, a meat tenderizer, measuring cups/spoons, a cutting board, rolling pin, stuff like that. Towels are always a good option, so are sheets. For my cousins wedding, we got them a ton of new DVD's and a DVD player (they didn't have a good one) and they loved it. Two of us pitched in on it, so it wasn't terribly expensive (about $125 or so each). They took the movies on their honeymoon so they wouldn't have to pay-per-view! It doesn't have to be practical, just something that they will enjoy and use.

Mostly cleaning supplies...... And I got to try new ones and found out I love the wipe ones that have the chemicals already on them.

Also my bridesmaids got me a huge platter that everyone signed- I love it because it's a memory- and I use it constantly for cookies, meat, fish, parties- you name it.

To add the one thing I receive and have never used is pie plates! I already had 5 of my own and people bought me more... UGH.

Oh and an unusual gift I gave a friend that she loved and her family uses constantly were these strange over sized plastic cups with fruit on them. I thought they were hysterically funny so I got her a set. They are so tacky but she said they use them constantly because they hold twice as much liquid! I see them out at every party!

I dont know how unusual it is but one of my friends got me a set of books that you are supposed to put on the tables at the reception and the guests are supposed to write little notes to us in there... I really liked them and we will be using them, but I dont know if thats something I would have gotten for myself. But they will be a nice keepsake for later on!

i think the most unusual gift we got was 'tv dinner tables'.. they come in really handy when we just want to relax and have snacks in front of the tv =)

my aunt gave us a basket of everday household items like TP, dish clothes (that she made), cleaning supplies, a garbage can-lol and toothpase and stuff like that.. stuff you don't really think about but need =)

We received a folding step ladder (3 steps). I was suprised to see it, but actually it's very practical and we use it several times per week.
