Wiccans: What do you think of Atheist Witches?
First off: I know that not all Witches are Wiccan, but it seems that the most people who are "out of the broom closet" about it are Wiccans.
Secondly, the reason why I'm asking about Atheist Witches is because of the people who are known as Witches and may even use the title of Witch, but do not believe in deities, rather spirits, or energies.
Thirdly, do you think an Atheist Witch is deserving of the title "Witch".
What do you think makes a Witch?
Nightwind gets this one! Thanks

Witchcraft is a set of practices which is not tied to any specific belief. There are witches who practice from a position of faith in nearly every religion and philosophy in the world.
Of course those who are atheists (or nontheistic, as you please) and practice witchcraft are properly titled Witch, if they so desire. Broadly (very broadly) speaking, I would not call an atheist Witch a Wiccan, as Wicca is a religion, generally, and is based on dieties. But a Witch? Sure.

Wiccans for the main section are theists, being the two pantheist or polytheist. There are a small share of Wiccans who see the God and Goddess as archetypes relatively than surely deities so they may be labeled as archtypists. Atheist could be somewhat a stretch for them. Witches, it relies upon. Witch is a term for somebody who practices witchcraft, and there are a number of forms of witchcraft obtainable and a great sort of forms of Witches. Witchcraft would not would desire to be related to everybody faith, and positively would not have something to do with it. i've got prevalent Wiccan Witches, Atheist Witches, Satanic Witches, Christian Witches, Jewish Witches, Heathen Witches, and the checklist is going on. So some may be atheist, some theist. It relies upon.

I have absolutely no problem with atheist witches. A witch is someone who practices witchcraft, and witchcraft is a magical practice generally resembling folk magic and which tends to emphasize emotion and willpower over orchestrated ritual. No deity is required for witchcraft.
"Atheist Wiccans", on the other hand, are a completely different story.

Witchcraft has absolutely no relationship with Wicca, whatsoever. There are probably more Witches who *aren't* Wiccan than ones who are.
Wicca is first and foremost a religion.
Witchcraft is a practice, and that practice has nothing whatsoever to do with any deities.
Therefore it can, and is, practiced by atheists, and quite well.

Witchcraft has nothing to do with religion. There is nothing wrong with an atheist practicing what is essentially a non-religious, natural system of dealing with energy. That's all that Witchcraft is. I can't imagine why there should be any big deal about a person who doesn't believe in a god, practicing an art which has no religious basis.

I believe that anyone who practices witchcraft is deserving of the title "witch." The title is not, nor has ever been ours to claim.

lol.
Well... considering that witchcraft is NOT a religion, its a practice, that anyone inside or outside of any religion can be a witch, and that witchcraft is simply using already existing energies in the universe to accomplish a task...
An Atheist can be a witch quite easily.

it sounds like you are saying that these atheist witches don't believe in gods, but do believe in spirits and energies, well since in pagan religions we all know that god is just a spirit or energy it doesn't make sense that they would be atheists. of course if they want to practice the craft that is their business, but such a large part of magic is faith and atheists don't have faith in a godly energy and that is where the source of magic comes from, so once again i will say it just doesn't make sense to me, but to each their own...

It is part of the rede, I forget the exact verse, but it is a law of old that no witch shall interfere with the teachings of another witch. Only the goddess can decide who is and is not a witch.
In other words, I don't care if an atheist wants to practice the craft of the wise, let each dog choose its own fleas.
