How long can you safely sedate a cat?
I have a 5 year old cat that i love to death. She is currently living with me, my mom, and my brother. I was recently married and my husband is in the military. I am moving to Germany really soon with my husband and he said i could bring her along if i really wanted to. I do but i don't want to traumatize her. She is deathly afraid of her cat carrier. She freaks out when i finally do get her into it and she rubs her face on the front metal bars, throws herself against the sides and meows the entire time she is in it. The flight would be 8-10 hours.. is there anyway i could have her safely sedated for that long. Or is it best to leave her with my mother and brother. (mother ignores her and brother annoys her)

I think you should talk to your vet about this. I used to live in a military town and I worked at a vet's office. As you know, military people move a lot, so there were lots of pet owners coming to our vet's office to get help with this very same thing. Sometimes the vet prescribed tranquilizers. I'm not sure how long the effects last, but you can explain to the doctor how long the flight is and see if there's anything he/she can prescribe that will keep your kitty calm for the entire flight. Good luck with the move!
