You did not say what you require the computer to do, nor what you are willing to spend.

I have a decent setup for the price/performance:

    ASUS P5QL-E motherboard here:

    http://www.cbit.ca/Product.aspx?ProdID=7803

Intel Core 2 Quad 9550 processor here:

    http://www.cbit.ca/Product.aspx?ProdID=7974

I made sure to select a motherboard that allows a FSB (front side bus speed) of 1600 Mhz. The simple answer is because in the near future, the more powerful Quad cores and Octa cores coming out will be 1600 FSB rates, so i wanted to steer away from the 1333 Mhz FSB boards.

AGain, this is future proofing me for just getting a new processor in another couple years versus a new board and a new processor.

I selected the Q9550 Intel processor due to its overclocking ability, I have mine at 3.75 Ghz overclocked stable and my temps are nice at 47 degrees no load and about 67 degrees full load on air. Another feature of this processor is the 12 Megabytes of L2 cache. This is a huge performance increase over the standard 6 Mb caches processors and also I like 1333 Mhz FSB chip speed versus the Q6600 and the Q6700 chips that have only 1066 Mhz FSB speeds. Also, this chip is the new architecture 45 nm chip versus the older ones that are 90 nm. THis means the chip will run cooler in the long run and will outlast a 90 nm chip.

BEst of luck with your purchase though :)

    hi mate

it all depends on the processor and motherboard you require, however the cheapest i have seen is the AMD Athlon 3000+ processor and ECS GS-761 motherboard bundle from http://www.misco.co.uk/applications/SearchTools/it...

for only £42.99 inc VAT you get a AMD Athlon 3000+ processor and a ECS GS-761 Motherboard and allthough the athlon 3200+ isnt the fastest processor in the world its certainly not the slowest

and the motherboard has some decent specs including a pci-express x16 slot and 2 x dimm slots supporting ddr ram (max 2gb)

the motherboard uses the older socket 754 which may make it difficult to upgrade to a faster processor however there are a few around

for a dual core processor you may consider the Misco Saver Intel Pentium D E2160 CPU & MSI 7923 motherboard bundle(http://www.misco.co.uk/applications/SearchTools/it... uses the Intel Pentium D Dual Core E2160 processor running at 1.8ghz and the excellent MSI 7293 Socket LGA775 motherboard ,and being the lga775 type socket this means it will be easier to upgrade the cpu as the socket lga775 is the most common intel socket type

    any problems let me know

    good luck mate !
