If this was the first time that a white person were running for president ?
Why is it so hard for some white people to put themselves in the shoes of the average black citizen? How would you feel if it were the first time that a white person were running for president? Is it possible that you would vote for them because you could finally relate to one of the candidates? How is that racist?
Correction: The first black person with the "potential" to win the US presidency.

Actually as a black person I think that is racist.
I am crazy go nuts for Obama. But I would never vote for anyone just because they are black.
I think Obama is amazing because he is smart and inspiring and can move so many people of so many different backgrounds and that is why I voted for him.
If in my heart I believed that McCain (who I actually like too) would be a better President I would vote McCain. I think McCain would be a good president but I think Obama will be a better one.
I would never vote for someone just because they are black. Of course as a black person it is nice to see someone of the same color rise so for, but it does not effect my vote.
What upsets me is when I tell people I am for Obama they get this "oh you are just voting for him because he is black attitude."
Obama is a great candidate and he is black. In that order.

I think some white people are afraid that a black president is going to help the black citizens more then the white. Hopefully there are enough of us that will look beyond color and really see what Obama stands for.

Last night I made a really strong point to one of my friends by saying, "If there were no other African Americans in the race, and Obama supported ideas such as abortion, gay marriage, inflation of gas prices, doing away with social security, and other ideas that are considered "wrong" in today's society, I guarantee you that he would still get 30-40% of today's vote."
I agree that white people would be doing the exact same thing, but that's not the case. That's like saying you would feel empathetic for Nazi Germans during WW2 if the tables were turned. Yeah, we would, but that's not the case.
You don't see white people voting for McCain because he's white. A lot of white people are voting for Obama, including myself. But I'm not voting for him because he's black, but because he's a better candidate.
This is why racism occurs in America. African Americans remind us of racism. You'll never hear a portion of the white majority saying "Let's vote for McCain because he's white!" You'll hardly ever hear an Asian call you "racist" for saying something that they don't agree with.
Whenever I was in high school, I remember there was a gigantic argument over racism with our school's softball team. One of the players (who was African American), showed up late to practice, never went out onto the field to practice, always screamed at other players. Well, the coach kicked her off the team. The girl (who was the only African American on the team) pulled the race card, and the coach was fired.
So you mean to tell me that he did it because she was black? No, it was because she was being ignorant.
Simply put, there is no racism in America today from white culture. Sure, there's some white supremists, but they do not make up a good portion of the white population. Most white people look at everyone equally. We're going to vote for the best candidate to win the race. We're not voting for Obama because he's black or McCane because he's white.

It's not racist that you identify with him more because of his race. Just make sure you educate yourself about the issue and that you agree with Obama more than McCain because that is the most important thing. :)
I admit, I was so thrilled to see a woman running I wanted Hilary to win even though I agreed with Obama on a few more of the issues.

Alan Keyes and Elizabeth Dole both ran in 2000. Neither made it very far. Dole become sparkling off her husband's 1996 loss to Clinton, and that i imagine Keyes is slightly too eccentric for most republicans to back him.

Since I'm not a racist like most of the blacks that are voting for Obama, I can't empathize with their racist vote.

A vote based on skin color is racial (not racist). Regardless of whether or not it is understandable.
