Can parents get in trouble for their kid not going to school?
My friends 15 year old brother keeps skipping school. Even if his parents take him to school, he still manages to sneak out and then the school calls that he wasn't there. Talking to him does not good. If he keeps of not going to school can the parents get in trouble. They want him to go but its out of their control since they take him and then he gets out after they leave.
He will be 16 in couple months.
What kind of trouble can the parents get into because of him ?

Yes, in a lot of states the parent can be brought into court,
fined, and reprimanded by the court for the actions of their
child.
The best thing that they can do is sit him down and tell him
that they will no longer tolerate his behavior and that they
will not wait for the court to take action, as they will go file
him unruly if he skips school again.
If they file him unruly, he will have to face the juvenile Judge,
possibly face time in juvenile hall, get a probation officer to
report to, take drug tests, and serve community service.
If they give him probation and he violates, he will get locked
up.
Best wishes

I live in the Garden State of New Jersey, and yes they can. I was in court on an other mater one day and there were about 15 parents and children there, for complaints signed by the school board. The smallest fine by the court was $100.00. One women showed up without her daughter, who was still in bed. The judge postponed her case, and told her if she couldn't manage to get her daughter in court for the next hearing, they would both be serving thirty days in the county jail. I was amazed at the fines, and the time offered.

Yes, if a child is excessively truant, the parents can be held accountable.
I don't buy the "they can't do anything about it" argument. If that were my kid, I'd tell him this as I was dropping him off at school:
"I am going to assume that you will stay at school. I'm going to assume this, because, if I get another call that you have left school, I will be attending with you every day. I will sit beside you in class; I will go to lunch with you; I will help you study in study hall. I'd rather do other things; but I WILL do this. It's up to you."
They probably won't have to do this; but, if they do, they won't have to more than once.

The parents won't get into trouble with him being almost 15. But the law says you have to go to school. If he doesn't, then he'll get in trouble. He'll be placed and won't have a choice about going to school. You might want to tell your brother's friend this: for every diploma you don't get (high school, college, university, etc.), you're cutting down your pay scale by FIFTY THOUSAND DOLLARS per diploma you didn't get. That means he's wasting the chance to earn at least about ONE HUNDRED AND FIFTY THOUSAND DOLLARS on the pay scale later in life... That woke my son up real quick...

Here in New York the parents can get into trouble.
You said they drop him off at school. Perhaps the parent(s) should escort the kid to his first class.

No they can't not at this kids age. What they need to do though is start showing the TOUGH LOVE thing!
Have him put in Juvy awhile. This may shape him up. He obviously has something going on besides not wanting to go to school. Could be drugs, booze, something that THEY as parents need to get off their butts and do something!!!
