Do cats sleep at all? If so, how long?
Do cats sleep? I was at a friend's house for a sleepover and we stayed up all night and the cat followed us and stayed up, too. I was wondering if this is normal. Do cats sleep at all, if so, how long?

Okay, cats sleep. But it really depends on how long do they sleep. Most cats sleep for 13 -15 hours. But some cats sleep for only 7 - 10 hours only. It also depends on the mood of the cat, If the cat is happy, the longer it'll sleep but if it stressed, the shorter it will....
Wish I answered your question.. :)

cats sleep all the time. They get up for an hour or two and then crash out again for a few hours. They are by nature a night-time animal, so tend to be more active at night. This is actually sometimes annoying because they wake you up in the middle of the night if they feel like it. Takes some getting used to when you live with cats.
Anyway, what you describe sounds pretty normal. The cat was probably happy to have company when it was in its normal stay-awake time, maybe even a little excited at all the unusual nighttime activity. Probably had fun too.

Of course cats sleep! They sleep for nineteen hours every day! Almost every living creature on out planet sleeps! Unless your friend's cat was from Mars, where there's no life so nothing sleeps, it will sleep. It probably just didn't want to miss out on the excitement of the sleep over! Besides, cats are designed to hunt at night, so they will be up a lot of the night anyway.
Source(s): I research cats a loads. Also, I know cats stay up a lot of the night because when I slept over at my friends, we were asleep and her cat came in and stood on out faces, wide awake. - Anonymous1 decade ago

They sleep 16 hours a day. That cat was awake all night because cats are part nocturnal. They sleep during the day and get hyper at night.

Sometimes cats sleep to a schedule, if you track the cats sleeping you might be surprised! That doesn't necessarily mean that they sleep all night.

Cats sleep anywhere from 12-18 hours a day. Those "catnaps" are all part of those hours. Just because that cat was "up" with you all night, doesn't mean she really was "up". She was probably cat napping whne you weren't looking. Cats are naturally light sleepers (its in their nature to be wary and alert) so when you moved, she woke up and it looked like she hadn't slept at all. My own cat is asleep right now next to me, but if I move, she wakes up and fixes me with that "whatcha doin'?" look.

Cats are light sleepers. They will typically be awake whenever there is activity in the house. When you all sit down and watch tv or do something else boring, that's when your cat will sleep.

Cats are noctural, ie they are awake at night.
Our cats slept 20 out 24 hours the only time they were awake was at night and then only for a limited time before they would take cat naps.
They really are only awake enough to eat and check out their area before going back for another snooze.

Cats sleep so much it would amaze you. They take little short catnaps all day, anywhere AND their regular sleep time. Do you want to know what else cats do all day? I finally figured it out!
