I hate to tell you this, but when you turned off System Restore and then turned it back on, you wiped out all of your stored Restore Point Images. Usually, the only time you should ever turn off System Restore and then re-enable it is if you are cleaning up from a viral infection. You see, when a system becomes infected and the system then takes one of its normal every 24 hour Images of your system, (which is a Restore Point) or if you create a manual Restore Point before making a change to your system, such as installing a beta program for a quick restore if things don't go right which is a normal occurrence in beta programs, the virus (which is basically just code) is also included in the snap shot image of your system at that point in time. When you turn off System Restore it deletes all Restore Points, thus clearing out any virus or other malware which might reinfect the system if a Restore Point is used in the future that includes that piece of malware. Turning it (System Restore) back on starts it fresh from that point in time onward.

Your best bet now to remove Internet Explorer 8 beta would be to go into Add/Remove, or Programs and Features and use the Unistall routine. This should roll back the installation to either IE7 or IE6, whichever you replaced with IE8. Internet Explorer is different than other software programs because it is included as a feature of Windows. So, you can't actually remove the Original IE that came equipped on your system, you can only install the new, sort of, over the top of the original. So, when you "remove" the beta, the system automatically gives you back your original IE. Whatever it may have been.

I couldn't find removal instructions for IE8 because it is still beta, but here are the instructions for IE7. Removal of IE8 should be similar to this, at the very least is shows how the original is "rolled back" or restored after removing IE7. It can aid you in your removal.

Now, before you remove IE8 be sure to set a manual Restore Point. It is a good idea to set manual restore points prior to making ANY changes to your system, including downloading files, installing applications, setting configuration options, and especially using any beta software. If you still have issues with IE8 please do a search of Microsoft Newsgroups for help. You can also do a Google search for a forum which aids in technical issues. In fact, here is a newsgroup for Internet Explorer, maybe somebody can help you with the beta.

Do a search of existing issues as somebody may have already received help for your issue which will provide the assistance you need without repeating the request. If the search doesn't show, then just use your Passport or create a Passport (you can use any existing email account to create one, you don't have to open a new Hotmail or Windows Live Mail account. If you have one though, that is your Passport and you do not need to create new credentials.) In your post be sure to include any trouble shooting you already have done, and list your system information such as OS version, manufacturer, and the trouble you are having and ask if you are in the right forum and if not could they recommend the correct one.

Good luck and I hope you correct your issue quickly. Please have a nice day.

What does it says is missing? Could be a hardware issue I guess, because a system restore doesn't care what's on the hard drive, it's going to nuke it anyways. I guess there might be an issue with the restore discs... Hard to tell without more info.

If your running Windows XP, do a Windows Repair with your installation disk.
