Did the Phoenix lander ever turn on the microphone?

I know it carried one. There was some problem, and they thought turning it on might interfere with some other, more important instrument. But the primary mission goals were achieved. Did the microphone ever get turned on? Are there sounds from Mars i can download?

Ok Suitti, here's my uneducated guess at your question,, based purely on logic.

    1) you know they had a microphone..someplace, someone had to share that information, yes?

    2) based on the first thought..it's been shared for the reason that it "might interfere with some other, more important instrument"..that being what? Aha!...it wasn't interference but, concern about the transmissions being intercepted , thus a cover up of sorts.

    3) and final thought, IF there has been recorded sounds, you can bet your bottom dollar..unless the Gov't or NASA is gonna gain huge bucks on sharing them...we'll just not know.

Thanks for listening to my uninformed , yet logical mind thoughts.

Source(s): just great to answer one of your questions...finally.
