Obama is mulatto, why not be proud of that title instead of everyone insisting he is black?

It seems to be more popular to call a man black instead of white, even though he is 50/50 of each. Why is that? Is it because to be black in America gives one the opportunity to blame others for your shortcomings and misdeeds in the name of racism? Hmmm....

Update:

It's so comical how many insulting answers I get for asking a legitimate question. I'm convinced that with the "I'm black" monicor he would get farther in politics, especially in Illinois.

Update 2:

#1 UT... Although I'm also a University of Texas fan and student, I don't appreciate your insult, insinuating that I would not read a book from B.O. The fact is, he had a privledged upbringing and I have experienced more racism and hate crime as a white kid in an all black Boy's Club than he ever did growing up.

because to be black in america gives you the opportunity to be the president...

the colour of the skin mattered before barack obama ....

    ....it doesn't anymore....

also , black people looked up to him as an inspirational figure

    ...someone they could relate to...

    BTW , obama never said

    ' hey , i'm black ! vote for me !'

it was the reps talking about real america...

    enough with the divisive politics..

obama ain't black ,white or mulatto...

    he's american.

    No.

America had a "one drop rule" which meant people that had a certain amount of black in them would be considered "colored".

During the civil rights movement, Obama would have had to go to the "colored" schools, restaurants, and restrooms.

America has shaped him to be black. He does not fit in as someone who is white or 50/50 in America. He wrote about this in his book, but I know you do not care to read it.

Have you noticed that he married a black woman and chose to go to a black church 20 years ago?????

It is obvious that in America he was accepted as being black and never accepted as being white. America is not like other countries that distinguish people who are 50/50. More than likely if your skin is dark people in America will consider you black.

That is where Obama has been accepted in his life as someone who is black. Even though he could relate with whites, America does not care because his skin is black.

Obama is unique because he can understand both the white and black cultures.

How about if we just call him President Elect Obama...and a little later President Obama? We really loose our dignity when we keep getting hung up on race. We may not all be created equal or the same in every way, but we are all human and there is no getting around that. I beleive there is supremacy in every race just as there is also failure...I think Mr.Obama has risen above many who consider themselves superior by color.

Those catagories for race are all screwed up due to politics.

I find it interesting that there is no box for marking "mixed race" on any government form, yet, most of the children being born today in America, are mixed race. The politics of skin color are not going away any time soon.

As for mulatto, nobody seems to like using that word even though technically, its correct for someone who is 1/2 African and 1/2 European. Don't even try to get into the Chicano/Latino debate. I myself would mark the box Homo sapien except that I never find it on the form.

Why is everyone so hung up on this, he's a man, like, a "MAN", it don't matter what color nobody is, it's whats inside, come on lets get over this, if he was "all white" he'd just have a different "label", but he's still a man, like other men, nobody gives the "blue man crew" any guff, and they're BLUE for gads sake.

Yes and no..you have some of the facts right..It is now popular to be the first Black man as President of the Untied States but Obama better get off his Keister and do something but rely on this fact that he is mulatto or black if you prefer..just appointing a bunch of wise guys to the cabinet is meaningless if he don't do something positive

Time will tell but he sure is starting in the HOLE...and it will take four years just to break even

All Black have white blood in them, but they can not go around calling themselves White, Had Obama not told you he was half white you you not have believed it. When the police saw him before he became well known, they would not ask if he is half white, they would say he is Black, same as many white refer to blacks that have almost as much white in them as they do. My Grandfather was white but no one expects me to associate myself as being part white. It is rare to find a Black that does not have white blood on both sides of their family, but many whites do not realize this, we are black as far as they are concerned and we do not mind being Black. being President- elect does not exempt Obama from being the same as most of us- Black. If you had to describe him and did not know his history, you would refer to him as black- he knows his history, but knows that he would be called black, which is ok by him.

Well his skin is darker my fine feathered friend. If he were a bright pink w/ 50% African blood, we'd probably call him white.

Sometimes the simplest explanation is often the right one...Occam's Razor.

I wonder this myself, especially since he was raised by his white mother and white grandparents.
