  • How do I create attic storage?

We have been living in our new home for two months and I went to the attic for the first time thinking it would be an open area and only needed to put down some plywood. Unfortunately, there are wooden beams crisscrossing the entire attic. Are these supporting the roof and how can I get rid of them to create space?

  • Having been in law enforcement and been very aware of the high rate of crimes against women...?

I cannot understand why so many women are so unprepared to defend themselves and have such a victim mentality. Several past girlfriends and now my wife tend to think about the possibility of being assaulted, raped, or murdered in terms of "I hope it never happens to me" or "I'll just do whatever he wants just to survive". What is that? If women armed themselves, and locked their doors and were prepared to fight, less would be victims. Can some women out there enlighten me on what goes through your heads about these situations?

  • Why are so many military wives disgustingly FAT?

    I've heard all the excuses;

    1. I've had 2 kids

    2. My schedule is so hectic

    3. I'm depressed so I eat too much

Granted, it is an American epidemic, but I see so many guys who are in shape and try very hard to keep themselves fit, go home to women who were average before becoming a military wife, and then balloon up! Why don't more women take pride in being a representative of the military family and stay in shape?

  • Obama is mulatto, why not be proud of that title instead of everyone insisting he is black?

It seems to be more popular to call a man black instead of white, even though he is 50/50 of each. Why is that? Is it because to be black in America gives one the opportunity to blame others for your shortcomings and misdeeds in the name of racism? Hmmm....

  • Who else believed the Electoral College has outlived its usefulness?

We have the technology now to elect Political Leaders based on the "Popular Vote" and there is not need to keep these people around, especially since they are not bound by law nor rules to vote for any particular candidate.

  • Do you think Obama's "National Security Force" is scary?

    I've changed my mind after I read the entire excerpt from his speech. Here it is;

Obama, July 2, Colorado Springs, CO: [As] president I will expand AmeriCorps to 250,000 slots [from 75,000] and make that increased service a vehicle to meet national goals, like providing health care and education, saving our planet and restoring our standing in the world, so that citizens see their effort connected to a common purpose.

People of all ages, stations and skills will be asked to serve. Because when it comes to the challenges we face, the American people are not the problem – they are the answer. So we are going to send more college graduates to teach and mentor our young people. We'll call on Americans to join an energy corps, to conduct renewable energy and environmental clean-up projects in their neighborhoods all across the country.

We will enlist our veterans to find jobs and support for other vets, and to be there for our military families. And we're going to grow our Foreign Service, open consulates that have been shuttered and double the size of the Peace Corps by 2011 to renew our diplomacy. We cannot continue to rely only on our military in order to achieve the national security objectives that we've set.

We've got to have a civilian national security force that's just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded. We need to use technology to connect people to service. We'll expand USA Freedom Corps to create online networks where American can browse opportunities to volunteer. You'll be able to search by category, time commitment and skill sets. You'll be able to rate service opportunities, build service networks, and create your own service pages to track your hours and activities.

This will empower more Americans to craft their own service agenda and make their own change from the bottom up.

  • What support is out there for a 3rd Party candidate in 2012?

I'm very eager to see who would support a Libertarian candidate in 2012 assuming Obama does only a mediocre job as I expect. Please, find out more about the party's position on the issues and let me know who would consider voting for a Libertarian candidate.

  • Why is it deemed wrong to say that having women in certain career fields in the military only causes problems?

It is a fact once women were put aboard ships, it caused problems. When women are in a command, there are more problems. I'm not saying it is because the women CAUSE the problems, often men can't handle a women there and too many horny guys cause the problems. However, in an organization like special operations where everyone is professional and there to do a job, women are not around and it works smoothly. There are women in supporting roles and that works fine as well. What do you think? For all the "FemiNazis" who want to tell me I'm a sexist, please open your mind and answer the question.

  • What are the real reasons people rally against the expression of White Pride?

It seems that blacks in America have been given more and more in order to "make up for past inequalities" that it has had an adverse effect on white rights. Affirmative action was a great example. Now it is perfectly acceptable to make something "black" i.e. BET but if you try and have a "white" organization you are a racist. When will we stop accepting inequality and have real equality across the board?

  • Why are so many people against gun ownership by law-abiding, clear-thinking legal citizens?

Second Amendment aside, do liberal Americans not realize that less than 10% of violent crimes are now committed with a firearm?

    http://www.ojp.usdoj.gov/bjs/guns.htm

And only 14% of crimes involving a firearm, were committed with a weapon that was legally obtained.

    http://www.ojp.usdoj.gov/bjs/pub/pdf/fuo.pdf

In Canada which has strict gun control, violent crime was not reducted and only 2.4% of violent crimes involved a gun.

  • When are Americans going to stop using the term "African American"?

America is truly a melting pot. We are all from other lands unless you are 100% Native American. I'm Scottish American and very proud of my roots and my family's history. However, do I insist that I be labeled that way? No way! I'm "American". Now that we have a black president, when are you going to stop with the divisive titles and realize you have just as much chance to succeed as a white man, probably more because of the continuation of "white guilt"?

  • Why does anyone respect or listen to Jesse Jackson?

He is a bigoted man who is only in the limelight because he walked with one of the greatest Americans who ever lived MLK. His recent comments toward President-elect Obama were crude and enciteful. The worst part is, he said these things in response to Obama, telling it like it is! Black men do IN FACT leave their kids 50% of the time!! When will blacks in America accept that they are flawed in many ways and make the changes necessary to garner the respect of the rest of the country and stop throwing the pity party?

  • Anyone else tired of hearing black leaders take credit for electing Obama?

Most of the votes were from whites and other minorities. The only reason there have been changes in American society since 1865 is because Christian white men JOINED black men in a joint struggle for equality. Stop taking credit for a unified effort.

  • How can we inform Americans that our enemies all over the world use these forums to gather information? ?

I very much enjoy this forum to express ideas and ask questions. But, occasionally I see posts that are either from our enemies trying to get free information or an uninformed American unwittingly giving the enemy dangerous information. Do people realize that more than 90% of the intelligence information gathered before an attack like 9/11 was gathered from open sources on the internet just like Yahoo Answers? Is there anything we can do to inform the general public about operational security?

  • Canada4ever444... Are you really so removed from reality?

I think Canada is a great country! Canadians are friendly and your wilderness and even your metropolitan areas are awesome! But, when a Canadian bad-mouths American foreign policy it gets me very angry. Who the hell are you to talk crap about the USA who has protected you for hundreds of years? If it were not for the USA and our economic exchanges with Canada, you would be broke and everyone would be speaking French, German or Russian. How many Canadians feel they have a right to trash the USA and how many think the USA is a great country?

  • Is this a hoax Retirement Fund?

My wife is from Colombia and a cousin of hers is trying to get us to invest in a Retirement Plan from Skandia(U.K.) that will take $1,800.00 U.S. per year for 7 years and return $800.00 U.S. per month after that 7 years for life. How is that possible? Too good to be true?

  • Why is Yahoo Answers such a Left-wing Liberal forum?

It'd be very difficult to find a forum in which the moderators are more Liberal than this forum. Why do such sites exist and is this the trend we are facing in America? Where did the unbiased organizations go?

  • Why does Yahoo Answers screen certain answers? ?

I see a million questions on here that attack meat-eating, Republican, Christian, White men, but any question that says anything about ANY minority or a Vegan or an athiest is not subjected to the same standard. Will American ever be truely equal now that we have gone too far in the opposite direction? Yahoo Answers is certainly a good example of the censorship of certain people.

  • What can I do to help my wife feel comfortable with my son from a previous relationship?

My son, from a previous relationship, not marriage, is 15 years old. My wife is 25 years old and has said that she would not be in the same house with my Son because he is not a child, but a man. She said it would be strange to have to live with him in the house. They only recently met for the first time and it was a very cold situation. She knew about him before we married and had no problem with it because he never lived with me. He was raised by his mother's parents. How can I make her feel more comfortable with the situation? She told me about a Colombian couple she knew that had a similar situation and the teenage son slept with the step mother. Is that common and a reason to worry?
