Kitten stopped eating?

she is 6 months old, indoor only, is worm free,,last week was refusing her canned food only wanted the dry,,,in the past 3 days has only been nibbling the dry,,still drinks water...today she has refused the can, the dry and even tuna..have checked her mouth for soreness..am going to call vet AGAIN this morning when they open...Any ideas on what could be going on?

Update:

PLEASE read the entire question---she is eating NOTHING....this is not a debate over dry vs can,,,,she is refusing everything, even tuna..this kitten has been on canned Pro Plan since she was 3 months old,,,i'm not going to the grocery store and getting lower quality pouched food....She is offered both can and dry--wont eat

Update 2:

Toast--ty so much for your answer,,,am calling vet when they open this morning,,,did not think about a hairball, she has never thrown one up,,checked the potty box, she is still pooing,,U may just be right, but will check with my vet...ty again

Update 3:

Troubles---ty for your answer,,Lizzie is on a High Protein Quality food we get from the Pet Store (Purina Pro Plan Kitten) and would not even consider putting her on a lower quality food...contacted the vet,,,they suggested that the non-eating could be a finick thing, but are concerned (as me)about her refusing liquids, have now tried warm CatSip Milk, natual homemade broth and water,,vet said to watch her for vomiting and loose stools for 24 hours, I already made an appointment for her for 10:50 tomorrow morning...

    Diana,

While cats can be finicky, and drive us a little batty about what to feed at times, it is very important that a cat eat every day. If cats don't eat, liver problems can start which begins a vicious cycle of not eating, liver getting worse, not eating, etc, and one has a huge problem on one's hands.

You are wise to take your kitten to the vet. There are so many things that can stop a cat from eating, ranging from a bacterial or viral infection, painful mouth due to

dental problems,as you suggest, or the food you are feeding is not to your cat's liking, which of course is something with which to deal.

Here is a list of possible infections as an example:

Lower quality food, by the way is never the answer to keeping a cat healthy. So when you get to the source of this problem, it is wise to find the best catfood you can afford to keep your kitty happy and healthy. When your cat is ok, begin mixing in a healther food with the old food, slowly, as cats have sensitive digestive systems.

Good luck to you. I don't think this is a hairball problem, by the way. Your cat would be wreching trying to get rid of the hairball, and since she is pooping, she more than likely does not have a blockage.

I think a visit to the vet is the only way you're going to put your mind at ease. She could be constipated. When that happens they can't take in any more food and a vet is the only one who can help you with this. It could also be a hairball preventing her from eliminating and again a vet needs to help you. Please, when you call the vet, get her in to be seen as quickly as possible.

canned food?!!! at 6 months??? its still only a kitten, try the packets of "singles" as they call it in the supamarket. try different flavours too. & yes theyll eat wen they feel like it cuz they only hav a tiny stomach :) , the same thing happened to my kitten, he wouldnt drink, so i put him at the water bowl and went outside the room, i soon herd slllllllluuuurrrrrrpppppp! hehehe. definately giv the kitten "singles" not canned food and giv it sum privacy, i no there cute and adorable but wen it turns 1 uve kind of seen everything it can do :) GO KITTTYYYS!
