Is this for real? Addressing Mormon missionaries? ?

This shows a problem at many levels.

On the surface, this is a man trying to influence with coercive tactics. He's a jerk. These poor young men who have sacrificed so much to be there get this treatment. As a young missionary, my mission president was worse.

Digging down, this gets even uglier. He's trying to sell the assumption that the act of masterbation keeps these guys from getting results; that God expects perfection and if he doesn't get it, no results. Like God is a pinata that if they just are pure enough, the stick will swing right and God will give them the candy. How very sad. Once you know God's grace, this will look silly.

He assumes that if they don't confess to him, they won't get the spirit back. Welcome to a spiritually abusive organization. Jesus paid for our sins. When the viel was torn in the temple, this put the priest out of work as mediator. Jesus is our mediator. This abusive man is not.

This also shows the fundamental assumption of Mormonism that we can perfect ourselves. Reality says otherwise. God does the perfecting in the real gospel. See Romans 8:28-30. He's the author and finisher of our faith. Real change doesn't happen with white knuckle will power or even loving obedience, but through surrender to the real God, Jesus.

For the LDS on this site, please get help. Don't let this organization spiritually abuse you. Don't let them do this in the name of helping you become perfect. A relationship with Jesus does that.

Most Christians, including Mormons believe that Masturbation is a sin. It is lustful.

Are you asking if it's bad to talk about things that are morally corruptible? That seems ridiculous.

Missionaries commit to a very high standard when they agree to be missionaries. They are very aware of the standards expected of them when they go on a mission. Pornography, masturbation, and other similar things are clearly not acceptable for missionaries.

This talk is addressed to missionaries. This is a mission president. It is not from BYU.

I don't think it's real for a few reasons.

1. Taking pictures and video aren't allowed in the Chapel, therefore this couldn't be real if the setting is really an LDS chapel.

2. Leaders have these types of discussions one on one with someone who may be struggling in this particular area. Not done in a group setting.

3. Most things found on YouTube about the Mormon church are often very very false.

Well I am Mormon and I served a mission. I believe the audio could be real, but the video does not go with it. It is just a frozen pic of a speaker. Masturbation can become a serious problem. Of coarse I am not above reproach on this. Masturbation can become an addiction which leads to far worse and uglier things. If you talk to just about any serial killer or rapist they will admit that it all started with pornography and masturbating. Like many things it's better for you not to do it. Masturbating leads one to live in a fantasy world, and helps them escape reality. It leads to a life of lusting after thing and objectifying them. At some point a person becomes "past feeling" and needs more to stimulate them. And that is where the problem starts to progress further down a dark path.

And just imagine if they had an erotic dream and woke up doing "unnatural" things to their bed. Or even climaxed during such a dream.. (It happens when your in your teens) Is that a sin and should they repent for it?

How bout when they had a dream that they believed was revelation. Is there a difference? It comes from the same place.

Oh wait, Mormons among most faiths believe it comes from different places. One is the sub-conscience the other is from a divine influence.

Give me a break.

1. It's on youtube - so no, I don't believe it.

2. It's a pretty benign setting - unidentifiable as any particular chapel.

3. Leaders usually speak in a more reverent dignified manner.

4. Even if they did teach this, they certainly wouldn't video the session.

I don't think it's for real, and if it is - somebody's going to be in a lot of trouble.

I have no desire to sit through a talk on masturbation, just to let you know whether it is legit or not.

In case you haven't noticed, the Book of Mormon teaches that the natural man is an enemy to God. Mankind is in a lost and fallen state, carnal, sensual, and devilish. Only through the process of repentance, and faith in Jesus Christ, can we overcome the temptations of the world, and be born again as spiritual men and women.

Hmmm... Based on everything I've read, it sounds pretty legit. I'd like to hear from some LDS folks though.
