Ford doesn't need assistance?
Does this make you have more respect for Ford and less likely to purchase a GM or Chrysler vehicle. Or is it simply a sign that Ford has had more success building and selling cars than its competitors?

Ford realizes a power grab by socialists when it sees one, and is not going to take the bait. Good for them. I need a new truck, anyway. An F-250 sounds about right.

Ford does not get near enough credit for the great things they have done. They have been fiscally responsible, trying to keep up with the failing UAW retirement payments.
They are also one of the most eco-friendly companies out there (way better than their polluting Jap counterparts).
Do a google search on the Rouge River plant and all the green initiatives they have going......My question is why haven't the enviro-nazis hailed Ford as a leader in the movement and supported them bu buying their cars? Instead they buy Subarus and Toyotas built by people that pollute and hunt wales!

I worked for Ford for 30 plus years and Ford started to get leaner a long time ago...the parts plants were spun of to Visteon and then Automotive Holding Corp. and then they are sold and or closed
Ford did a not of cutting of the DEAD WOOD and it still is trying to get lean and mean..The Focus was just mentioned as the top of the line seller..
I know every car company of the Big Three put out some lemons in the past but I know for a fact that the Quality Control is a lot higher
It is either ger better or get out of business..there is just too much as stake to lose so many millon people jobs in the USA

Usually Ford tends to maintain strong cash positions since the tenure of Donald Peterson as it's chairman, it is the best run of the big 3, and since Peterson's reign as the CEO, it only makes a few adjustments when hard times hit, such as cutting overtime, it has some success competing against imports the Taurus, Sable and Focus have stacked up welI as wel

Ford doesn't need assistance because they don't want to knuckle under to the government. They were there with their hand out in the beginning until they found out there would be strings attached to the bail out and then all of a sudden they didn't want the money anymore. All 3 were hoping to get a 'no strings deal' like the banks got.

tough to say unless you research it... i still wont buy foriegn either way. part of the reason we have to spend about half of the bailout funds on the big 3. could have just bought american and avoided the problem. but.. what can you do now? i have a gmc and i love it. in the 3 yrs i've owned it as a used vehicle it's spent 2 days in the shop and it was because i got rear ended. never a mech prob.

It is a sign that Ford doesn't want to be nationalized. Old Henry can stop spinning in his grave now.
Did you know the Model T was originally designed to be run on hemp ethanol but the oil lobbiests killed the fuel with oil subsidies?
The market should be left to itself, to be innovative.

Well remember, that the Ford CEO flew in on his private jet asking for a handout as well. All of these companies are in trouble. Ford just isn't in trouble today. But they were asking for 9 Billion dollars, expecting that they may have trouble meeting their obligations in the coming months. So, I don't think you can elevate them to "well run" status just yet.

Cerberus could easily bailout Chrysler if they wanted to.GM is just a disaster.Ford understands what needs to be done and is at least trying to do it.

No, it's because Alan Mulally decided to mortgage most of Ford's assets when he became CEO in 2006. They're in a decent financial position because of that wise decision.
