Try going to yahoo main page> local> type in karate in the search bar and it will bring up a list of instructors in your area. a lot of time other people have rated them so that will also help you decide.

Karate just like most martial arts, the instructor will teach you the forms, and ensure you perform them correctly,

it is up to as the student to take what you learn to the next level..

just go in and speak to a few instructors in your area, and choose who is right for you.

if money is not an issue, go to Cheju South Korea, and get trained by the instructor of the National Korean team

The most committed karate instructor is one that has sacrificed much to get where he is. He is one that refuses to sell out as many others have to make money. As such he either has a small dojo with only a few students or teaches in a less commercial venue. By that I mean he may teach through a recreation center or privately. although this description is not true all the time it is true many times. Those that are true to correct training and values know that it is very hard to run a dojo and pay the bills unless you are willing to sell out. That means lowering standards, promoting often, using contracts, and handing out black belts to students that would never become black belts in traditional dojo. Just my thoughts after having owned a dojo for most of the last 35 years.

Pugpaws gave the best answer you can absorb.

I don't even charge for my training, except for the fee of dedication.

I know of such instructors but since I have no idea what city you live in, I won't be able to help you find one.

Find one that is cool and calm. I went to a place where the instructor kept bragging about how many tournaments he won and it completely turned me away. Karate is not about fighting, it's about training yourself in self defense if you need it.

Just like you find the best committed car mechanic, house painter, or dentist. You do your own research. Talk to people, check out references, observe his work, etc.

    Probably in Okinawa.

Just a question. Are you planning on moving hundred or thousands of mile away to learn?
