Do not touch any weights or other mechanical exercise instruments till you attain the age of 19-20 yrs or you might cause harm & permanent damage to yr muscles, let yr body develop naturally in its natural way, then go ahead.

I have never heard of the height issue. Sixteen is a great age to begin. The reason why is because you are young making your goals, usually, easier to reach. It will also get you in the habit of good health and won't have to lose all the extra few pounds you gain in the next few years. I think it was 70% of college freshmen gain some weight. If you are already in the habit of working out, you less likely to experience this problem. I know I stopped working out for about a year and in my first semester of college I realized I had gained fifteen pounds! I lost it, of course. Now, I will never let that happen again.

Don't be scared about stunting your growth. Thats just a rumour xP
Alot of body builders eg; Arnold Swarchanegger (LOL) started working out when he was a teen. NOW HE'S LIKE 6 FOOT TALL!!!
So yeh. Its noot yet proven, to be a fact that working out strongly at a young age stunts growth.
