customer harassment help!?

Summary: I am being harassed by a customer and need advice/help

I work for a financial company as the second in command next to the owner however I do not own this Company, I am simply an employee there.

I have a customer who started out being a great person to work with. This customer was in the process of acquiring a loan however mid-way through, the customer's credit dropped to where we could no longer continue with the loan offer. We offered an other type of loan and this customer was thinking it over. A couple weeks went by, the borrower decided to not pursue the loan and then out of no-where starting harassing me making all these false accusation (the customer is - like most - suffering from financial distress and I feel this person is taking it out on me). This person now emails me obsessively with threats, completely out of line and unprofessional comments, and clearly has lost all his marbles. It's pretty much a Mr Jekyll and Mrs Hyde situation and although I have stopped responding to his crazy and notoriously erroneous emails as it gets us nowhere, he has now found my home phone number and my address. He has only called and hung up thus far but with these crazy person threats I'm afraid of what he may do, we are certainly not dealing with a sane person at this time and this person is now taking it to another level by bringing it to my home. The owner of the Company and the Company's Attorney feel that there is no issue at hand since we did nothing wrong and therefore they do not feel the need to contact this person or have time to get involved - I believe they don't understand the magnitude of the situation now.

Any advice on how I can get this crazy person to stop harassing me with ridiculous threats, can/should I get the police involved?

    Go to Radio Shack.

You can purchase a micro-cassette recorder and an adaptor that hooks to your phone. Should the guy call you - this will allow you to tape record the phone calls. Get the threats on tape and notify the police.

Contact your phone company- see if you can get his phone number blocked.

Do you have neighbors you get along with? If so, speak to them about the situation and ask them to keep an eye out. If they see something not quite right to please call you or the police.

Call a local security company. Many will inspect your home for potential dangers when they give you a quote for a security system. And, it may not be a bad idea to consider a security system. It's a good thing to have now anyway. And if it's a monitored system - you can get a discount on your homeowners insurance.

You can also speak to your local pd. Many will have an officer come out and inspect your home and make safety recommendations.

Take some steps now- put a pad lock on your crawl space so no one can enter your home through there. Trim bushes back from the windows. Put motion lights up. If you have a sliding glass door- put a stick in the track. Make sure all exterior doors have dead bolts.

If you want - consider getting a small stun gun you can carry in your purse. I carry a Small Fry. It's got some kick to it. http://www.nkhomesecurity.com/products.asp?categor...

Good Luck and there is no such thing as being too careful.

You've cleared it with your boss, so your work situation is taken care of.

When this guy calls your home, call the police. This is no different than stalking and he is obviously disturbed.

Keep the emails to show the police. Show them your caller ID too.

You can change your phone number. You may be able to have it changed free of charge if you report the abuse to your phone company. When the number is changed, make sure it is Un-Listed AND Un-Published.

YES!!! In this day and age of lunatics. Print out the emails and take them to the police department. Are you certain it is him calling your home? Do you have caller I.D.? If you can't prove it is him calling the police most likely won't consider the calls to your home as part of the complaint. Good luck and be safe. Don't let this man make you paranoid just be sure to use common sense.

When he calls you at home, you call the police. That is the point where the line is crossed. Make sure you give them the emails.

BTW: in Canada a company has a legal obligation to protect their employees under the health and safety act.
