Optiplex GX260 no sound?
One of my co-workers irritated the boss-man by not answering the phone due to listening to music. Boss-man goes and disables the sound on the computers.
Now, boss-man is gone to a different dept.
I’ve double and triple checked to make sure the mute is not on, the device is enabled, I downloaded the correct drivers (using the service tag), the volume is up, onboard sound is enabled via bios, soundmax is listed as the default playback and recording device, etc.
So i decide to email the old boss and see if i can get the fix- he simply tells me to reinstall the drivers from the Dell site. At this point, i think I'm about to go crazy as every single test I do says the device is running properly and yet no sound whatsoever.
I get sound from headphones but not even system sounds when the headphones are removed.
i've restarted 10 or more times and reinstalled the drivers multiple times (drivers obtained using the service tag).
Any help is appreciated.
I’ve even done a ->run->dxdiag (diagnostic tools with audio test tone) and still no luck.
Dell optiplex GX260 (work comp)
Soundmax integrated audio.
I've removed the audio device from the device manager and rebooted. Manually installed the drivers etc. This did not work - and 5 pc's that were playing sound now do not and i've tried the exact same steps on all... i doubt the devices are bad, as they worked prior.

Go to settings/control panel/system/device manager
and delete the sound device and shut down. Reboot
and you should get the message "new device found" see
if windows can install it from the windows files.
If it is not there you will have to download the driver and install it manually. But since you have tried the manual method the device itself may be bad

hhhhmmmm... Interesting... do you have any devices listed in Device Manager as Unknown? Wish I could be of more help.
