Kitten question...please help.?
I got a 10 week old kitten from the Humane Society about 3 days ago and I had a few questions about it's behavior. He is very healthy been checked out and has shots. I've had kittens in the past, but this one seems different. He doesn't want to play, he only wants to crawl all over me all of the time. He won't quit and if I don't hold him he cries. I've never had such a dependent kitten. All he can think about is being attached to me. He will calm and go to sleep if I put him in his sleep area. I just wonder how much attention I should give. I don't want to ignore him, but he needs to get over this. I have other cats, but they don't care about him at this point.

Some young kittens are that way, especially if they were taken from their mother too soon. It's not uncommon for them to be taken at 6 weeks or so in shelters, so this may be the case with your kitten. I recommend just giving him the attention and reassurance that he's seeking for now. He'll back off and become more adventurous in a few weeks when he's older and more secure in his new home. At some point you'll be left shaking your head wondering what happened to your clingy little kitten.

As you do not really know the background of the kitten he may not know how to play. Sit on the floor wit him and gently roll some ping pong balls across the floor and see if he will chase them. Also get some string and walk slowly round the floor dragging the string along and he should chase it. THe reason he crawls all over you is he sees you as his mother and still needs to feel secure, you could give him an old jumper that you have worn and encourage him to sleep on it and that will give him some security. Also bu some feliway spray or a feliway diffuser they give of natural cat hormones and creates a calm atmosphere. Just give him time and he will soon settle in.

If he was found without his mother he could be very dependent on you because he needs to feel secure. He may be suffering and is using you as a surrogate. let him climb all over you but engage your other cats at the same time. get them involved with him and maybe he will become more attached to them.
I've heard that rubbing some tuna water on the new kitten will make him more attractive to the others. They will groom him while getting the tuna water and this may cause bonding.

Shake hands, me and my husband adopted a 4 month old kitten from Humane Society this xmas, same as my brother and sister in-law.
The kitten they adopted is as same as your cat. He keeps licking my brother in-law's face when they are asleep. My brother has to carry him and walk around, like a little baby.
Sorry I can't really help with that. The only thing I can think about is because your cat hates the smell of Humane Society and he's afraid you will send him back there. Our cat ran away from us after we came back for Humane Society. Try hold him with one of your towel, wrap him with it when you are not around. Hope he can get used to it.
