Why is the President-elect Already going back on campaign promises?

So he's admitting that he lied about everything he promised.

He said he's taking troops out of the middle east during his campaign, now he saying he wants to send more?

And what is with this statement he made?

"Our challenge is going to be identifying what works and putting more money into that, eliminating things that don't work and making things that we have more efficient," Obama said on ABC. "I want to be realistic here. Not everything that we talked about during the campaign are we going to be able to do..."

From Daily News.

Update:

Isnt the president supposed to lie after he gets into office... not before?

My feelings exactly as to what Peter H stated .President Obama is not a magician ... after many meetings with Bush .. President Bush has finally told the truth and Obama has since had to scale back. He has also ery recently had meetings with the last 4 Presidents all together and they have all conferred at to the extent of damages he is facing... Obama is the best man for this impossible job if anyone can do it he can but it is going to be long ...and very painful .. The sky has not even begun to fall . look out 2009 . and Obama can only do so much, he will avert much but not all of it there will be many casualties

He hasn't gone back on any as he isn't president-yet.

No one is going to keep all their promises. It is unrealistic!

Moreover, things have changed drastically in the economy since Obama began running. Any president worth their salt will not stand on a party platform in exercising their judgement in the face of the largest monetary crises the world has ever seen. And we are at the bottom of it. Go with the flow. One needs to be able to change! It is that kind of rhetoric that got us where we are today!

    "Stay the course!"

Ermm... well there is that whole huge economic crisis that broke in between his initial campaign promises made over a year ago, and now. The social programs that he promised will obviously need to be cut back or sometimes eliminated. We're living in quite a different America now than we were at the start of the Presidential campaign over a year and a half ago. I'd be rather horrified, myself, if he were still promising the social programs initially promised.

Afghanistan is not in the middle-east whereas Iraq is, I think that is what he was getting at.

With that aside, do remember he is a politician. The idea that he lied shouldn't be too big a surprise. And doesn't matter about him not being in office; the moment he won the election he could go ahead and lie if he wanted to (cos he was in).

A politician broke a promise. Why are you so surprised? Because they say anything to get elected, and most Americans have the memory of a fish when it comes to politics.

He's just trying to appease all the Bush warmonger followers. Remember them? The ones who were happy that Bush started a war and had many, many, many troops killed. They said that Bush was "keeping them safe" when he did. What's the problem now?

    Because he already got elected.
