1. They don't understand it, and therefore think it's stupid or silly. 2. They want to be different. 3. They want to assure themselves that they are better than these "cartoons" by putting down those who like anime. Honestly, anime *is* cartoon. But they don't understand that they're not really belittling it by calling it cartoon. Both cartoons and anime are art. And either way, belittling art is not very cool. Belittling people for liking said artform is even less cool. Joshms is right, this happens in Books & Authors all the time (people belittling others for liking certain books), and I think, for the most part, for the same reasons. What I advise to the victims in B&A is that they be the better people and ignore the attackers. There's no way you can convince another person that they're wrong without starting a fight. And fighting is not the way to go. Everyone *is* entitled to their own opinion, so you can't really get on their cases about not liking anime. What's wrong is that they post those rude questions but, again, you can't really do much about it. So just let it go. Pay more attention to the anime-positive questions than the anime-negative. Why? Because the anime-negative questions don't deserve your energy or attention.
