cats hunting birds, mice etc.?

is it right to step in and say, save a bird that is being killed by my cat.

after all that is what cats do, hunt. it is natural. so what do you think?

Update:

hey these are nice answers. personally i dont care what my cat does to another anmal as i know that is their nature. i am an animal lover but that is within reason. some of the people out there think they should intervene in every dang case and that just isnt the case. nature is nature and it has worked for many years. anyway my point is that i dont want too see a bird die but then again that is nature. we all die, for food or whatever. i lost a few cats to eagles before also when i lived in alaska, you know i was sad, i love cats and eagles but i know that it is just nature and one may have to kill to feed. no different from humans

One of the first things a cat does when it captures a bird is to cripple it by biting through a wing joint.

You won't be saving a bird by taking it away. You will just prolong the suffering of the bird. Just let nature take it's normal course or take the bird and wring it's neck. You will be doing it a favour.

I'd do it, and release the bird.

A healthy bird is very hard for a cat to catch, though they do try. They're MADE for hunting birds and small animals, after all. But after seeing expert hunting cats trying to get the birds that come to the feeder, they can do 14 to 20 tries before they even come close to getting one. It's difficult for them to get birds, the things are just too wary about cats and they don't take chances.

Since tapeworm IS transferable from bird intestines to cats, don't let yours eat them. They can pick up the parasite all too easily.

it is the nature of a cat to hunt kill and eat...

i don't like that they kill birds and eat their little heads feathers and all like my cat sometimes does...but this is the way it is in the animal kingdom.

i keep my cat in most of the time, and am outside with her when she is out...keeps the birding from getting deadly for a bird and keeps my cat from getting run over or attacked by a dog.

I would def save my birds! I have two Cockatiels and my cat would get in big trouble if she tried to kill them. She used to do us a great deed in killing mice though she can do that all she wants to.

the cat really won't care, she will always be able to chase another. The bird or mouse on the other hand will be very greatful!!
