Besides Quakers, any other God-groups who have no history of using it for committing or supporting crimes?

Right now, I personally am drawing a discussion line at their simply being overbearing and sanctimonious as not actually criminal, but having local membership therein determine eligibility for employment, dating, residence, etc. as being over that line. The seizing of land or imposing of special laws, I feel are way over that line.

All rants welcome!

Update:

I did not mean to infer by this terse wording that Quakers are in any way overbearing or sanctimonious. Regards, Larry.

Update 2:

Let us all be patient with those of us who are in a marathon of geekism and are having trouble focusing their eyes, and only read the first line of anything before answering.

people like to paint catholics with a wide brush. As much as there have been groups of catholics who have participated in bad deeds or who chose to maintain neutrality while horrendous deeds were done on their doorstep, there are many subgroups and orders who fit your definition. Of course, normally these same groups have no interest in moving into posititions of power or setting the agenda for catholicism as a whole...nor on beating their own drum.

Take a look at all the orders of Nuns for example. True, many are just closed to the outer world and concentrate on prayer, or in the day to day workings of a well-to-do church.

But many are going out into the world and doing good works for the poorest and weakest of people. These aren't people who just put up a good show on Sunday. In fact, many of these nuns have lost their lives for the cause...and kept true to their faith and conviction even as they lay dying.

"NAIROBI, Kenya Sister Leonella, a nun who devoted her life to helping the sick in volatile regions of Africa, used to joke that there was a bullet with her name engraved on it in Somalia. When the bullet came, she used her last breaths to forgive those responsible

An elderly Italian nun who devoted her life to helping the sick in Africa was shot dead by two gunmen at a hospital Sunday in an attack possibly linked to worldwide Muslim anger toward Pope Benedict XVI. Sister Leonella, 65, was shot in the back four times by pistol-wielding attackers as she left the Austrian-run S.O.S. hospital at lunch time after finishing nursing school for trainee medics. Her bodyguard was also slain."

BRASILIA, Brazil - Brazilian police searched Amazon jungle on Sunday for suspected killers of a 74-year-old American nun gunned down after defending peasant farmers in conflicts with loggers and ranchers.

"Two gunmen shot and killed U.S. Catholic missionary Dorothy Stang at a settlement of landless peasants on Saturday, 30 miles from the town of Anapu in northern Brazil's Para. Stang, a native of Dayton, Ohio, spent three decades backing small farmers in Amazon land battles and faced death threats. Police identified the gunmen and suspect a local rancher ordered the killing. Anapu ranchers accused her of supplying guns to peasant farmers. Fellow missionaries in the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur order, which has some 2,000 nuns spread across five continents, dismissed the claims as "absurd and false."

"MAPUTO - Six people have been arrested over the murder of a Brazilian nun - 53-year-old Doraci Edinger- in northern Mozambique, where missionaries have received death threats since alleging an organ trafficking network is operating in the area, the country's chief prosecutor said. "

Freemasonry. Without them we wouldn't have the constitution.

It's not really a "God group" though.
