What's in your changing bag?

I'm currently 30 weeks pregnant and was wondering what other than nappies, wipes and cream do you keep in your babies changing bag?

Also what baby toiletries would you use if any (soaps, shampoos, oils, moisturisers etc)? I've read that newborns up until the time they begin crawling only really need bathing in water but what are your experiences?

i used to carry at least 1 change of clothes, usually a change of clothes and a set of jammies. extra socks, a hat or two, sunscreen, a blanket, and plastic bags for dirty diapers. but i have always been an over packer:)

  • I bring everything but the kitchen sink. I have a changing pad, at least 2 outfits, 2-3 receiving blankets, 4-5 burp cloths, 2-3 bibs, 1-2 toys, at least 1-2 extra bottles, bottle of water, baby powder, lotion, purell hand sanitizer, gas drops, and tylenol, plus about 20 diapers and 2 small plastic containers of wipes. I try to be prepared.

As far as toiletries I use huggies or Johnson's lotion, Johnson's baby powder, the wal mart brand soap (reg and lavender scented), Huggies wipes, and pampers diapers. I'm all over the place on brands. I will say this as far as diapers go do not by the store brands. The ones we tried all leaked bad. If you formula feed, don't skip costs there. It's too important to go cheap. Good Luck and Congrats!!

Nappies, wipes, sudocrem, vicks, spoon (for feeding baby), a spare vest, spare socks or booties,

    I think that's it..

As for washing, you don't really need to use soap until baby is about a month old. Just using water is fine until then. I use Johnsons Lavender bath wash, it's great and smells really nice.

You also only need to wash baby 1-2 a week, don't be fooled by the 'you must bath them everyday' - it's not true and can dry out their skin.

    Good luck with baby.

  • right now for my almost 9 month old is:

    a few toys

    a burp cloth

    a bib

    a can of formula

    a bottle

    a bottle of water

    diapers

    wipes

    eczema cream

    gerber puffs

when he was new there was always 2-3 burp clothes, a change of clothes (or 2-3 if we'd be gone all day), a receiving blanket and no toys or gerber puffs

this summer when he's one I hope to only use a large purse or at least a tiny child's backpack and put in diapers, wipes, a snack and a few small toys. I love my diaper bag but I am kind of getting sick of carrying around that and my pocketbook.

I keep his tylenol in my pocketbook because it's small.

i usually go out to visit my family, and i have left a stock of nappies, wipes, disposal bags and clothes there.

but if i am going down town, i usually take a couple of nappies, wipes, face wipes, disposal bags, a spare dummy, a bottle, a cloth nappy for spitting up....thats about it.

i have bathed my daughter in johnsons baby bath since she was born- the yellow one was the one she was given her first bath in by the midwives, and i have used that all of the time. I bath my daughter every night- a lot of women dont as babies can be bathed every now and then- i just wanted to get her settled into a bed time routine as early as possible. by 12 weeks she was ready for her bath, her bottle, and a 10 hour solid sleep! but, not everyone is that lucky, and not every woman wants to bath their baby every day- which is fair enough, they arent dirty really unless they are smelly from having a bad spit-up day.

    5 Diapers

    Wipes

    Changing pad

3 Plastic bags for dirty diapers (I only use them for poopie diapers)

    Ointment

    2 burp cloths

    Change of clothes

    Blanket

    Nail clippers

Booger getter thing (no clue what its called)

Mylicon drops for his gas (I'll carry tylenol too when he's old enough)

    Hand sanitizer (for me, mostly)

A hat (my son is a month old & it's still important to keep his head warm)

Bottle or two if we're going somewhere I feel I won't be able to breastfeed.

Then I have a seperate bag that goes inside the diaper bag to keep my things in:

    Tylenol

    Chapstick

    Hair brush

    Simple makeup

    Cell phone

Camera (never know when he's gonna do somethin cute!)

    & extra batteries

I know my bag probably sounds huge & heavy, but it really isn't. I just made sure to get a decent sized bag that has a lot of compartments so everything stays organized & fits well. Plus, it's easier to have the second smaller bag for myself instead of carrying a diaper bag AND a purse AND a baby.

Only you really know what you need in your bag on a daily basis & it will also change from trip to trip depending on where you're going & how long you'll be gone.

Congratulations on your pregnancy & good luck to you!!

I keep 1 changes of clothes, bottles, and an extra blanket.

I have used soap and lotions on my kids sense they were a couple weeks old. Baby soaps and lotions. They wash them with soap right there in the hospital. Or at least they did the last time i gave birth.

    My nappy bag contains;

Change of clothes (usually a basic jumpsuit depending on where we are going) incl spare singlet and socks

    4-6 nappies

    wipes

nappy sacks for dirty nappies and rubbish

    mini tube rash cream

    sm bottle hand sanitiser

    1 wrap and 1 blanket

1 white sqare cloth nappy for spit up, spills etc...

    Spare dummy and dummy chain

Changing mat (plastic one that comes with the bag plus some disposable ones if he has a major blow out and i have to change him on the front seat of the car!)

    Baby's health record book

    Bib

Plus his sippy cup, bottle, formula, snacks, lunch, spoons....

oh, i forgot i also have sunscreen, hat, toys, teething gel, teething rings, baby paracetamol and shoes!

PLUS my stuff...purse, keys, phone, lipbalm, pen, small pad of paper, tic tacs, nail file, hair brush and spare hairtie, tampons/pads

Sounds like a lot doesn't it, lol!! I have a large nappy bag with 3 main pockets and lots of little compartments to tuck things into so its really easy to find everything i need!

I've always used baby 'soaps' from early on without a problem..my favourite is the huggies shea butter total baby wash for body and hair and the Amolin total baby wash...they smell really pretty! I would squirt it into the water instead of rubbing it straight onto their skin though.

I've also been told that you should moisturise or put baby oil onto your babies skin to stop it drying out. They are incased in fluid for so long that their skin can really dry out when they are born so you need to keep it moisturised. My 7 month old peeled like crazy when he was born that we had to do it twice a day with baby sorbolene cream but my best friend used to use baby massage oil on her lil girl as per her doctors instructions.

    Good luck with your baby

    I keep:

    *Nappies

    *Wipes

*Spare set of clothes for baby and a spare top for myself.

    *Muslin squares

    *Nappy bags

*Antiseptic hand wash (great for places with inadequate changing facilities when your out and about)

    *A cuddly toy

    *Spare blanket

*Sudocream (The BEST for nappy rash)

*Bepanthen (If you breastfeed its great for your nipples)

*Nipple pads (Again if you are breast feeding)

    Toilteries:

    *Johnsons baby shampoo

*Johnsons baby oil (put a few drops in babys bath and yours to lock in moisture)

In the first few weeks most mid wives would advise against using anything other than the above as babies don't need moisturiser or talcon powder as it diminishes their natural oils.

    Good luck with your pregnancy!
