AR-15 assault weapons ban question?

If I purchase an AR-15 lower receiver on the Internet today and the customer service representative tells me that I will get it delivered to my FFL dealer in 10-12 months because they are so backordered. And let's say that Mr. Obama and Congress ban "assault weapons" permanently 6 months from now. Will my order be canceled or made illegal?

You you need to read the specific language of the bill.

Are you actually trying to nitpick this? You maniac! So what if the weapon was legally purchased? That is the point! Yes, the mother bought the gun legally. Yes, like so many other gun owners she was killed with it by her own son. We still haven't dealt with the terroists of the NRA whose deliberate actions have prevented any real gun control from protecting law abiding citizens from terrorists or the mentally unbalanced. That you should dare to nitpick about what kind of gun was used shows how stupid you are! Ignorant nitpicking will end up getting even more kinds of weapons banned. The Second Amendment guaranteed you access to a flintlock musket, and if you can't grow the sense to see that modern weapons in unstable hands are a greater danger to the nation you don't deserve anything more deadly. Fine, then, if you insist we will ban everything more complicated than a musket. Happy now?

Well for starters, an AR-15 is not an "assault weapon" or an assault anything. The Armalite Model 15 clone you can buy on the self is a semi-automatic rifle.

Intriguing. First, don't go with a company that will take that long to deliver. That is insane. There are many great resources already listed. If it is just a hypothetical question, then it would depend on the wording.

Nobody knows for sure what the h3ll is going to happen to us...I just pray we are all a bit paranoid, but it is wise to prepare. The sh!t is most defiantly going to hit the fan and it is going to smell really bad for a really long time.

Lock and load. Keep your powder dry.

No body can say for sure. Depends on the wording of the ban. Last time it went off of the manufactured date. There are some on gunbroker.com that are in stock. Why would you backorder one for a year. I could have bought three at a gun show last month.

Very good question, I'm not sure of the answer, but look for another seller. Waiting a year for your gun to get there isn't a good idea now. If Obama and the Communists in Congress ban "assault weapons", I'll wipe my *** with their ban, as will a lot of other people.

first off,mr. bud k-they banned sub machine guns made or converted to select fire or full auto after 1986,(assault rifles/uzis ect, made after or converted to full auto after the cut off date in 1986)not "machine guns after 1980" as you state,"machine guns" have been illegal to register to civilians since 1968(11-68 to 12-68 was the last time you could register a machine gun as a new weapon-no new machine guns legal to your average joe-can still get legally registered prior to december 68 machine guns(with a $500 tax stamp and legal forms to fill out) but nothing new in the form of a "machine gun" at all, same with converted or manufactured sub machine guns,if they were registered prior to the cut off date in 86 you can do a $200 tax and papers and own them legally)----but to your question,if it is purchaced in your name before the ban,as in you have a receipt showing paid in full before d-day(god forbid if that does happen)then theres no reason it shouldnt be legal, you owned before the ban(even if its on backorder, you purchaced before the cut off date) so therefore unless they try to take our so called "assault rifles" or parts away(god forbid once again),you will be good to go ;)

Its a very good question. Wish I knew.

and its kind of a catch 22 as well. On one hand, you purchased while it was a legal purchase. On the other, you won't receive it till after.....Lord I just hope Obama finds other things to keep himself occupied.

It depends......for example they banned all machine guns made after 1980..some.....so if the law says that you cant have an assault rifle no matter what them its illegal......If the law says that any assualt rifles manufactured before the law was made...,then ur ok
