Does anyone know why my beautiful 2 yr old tabby cat died suddenly this morning?
Sunnie appeared to be fine this morning, with no indication of any illness. Suddenly my son and I heard a screeching sound and looked down where he was laying, he lifted his head and it fell to the floor, as though he had lost muscle control. I picked him up, his body seemed lifeless but his heart was still beating. With in a half hour we had him to the Animal hospital when they told us he was gone. The vet examined him with cause of death being unknown, suspect cardiovascular event, saddle thrombus. From what I have read about this it does not describe the symptoms my Sunnier had. Can you tell me what he may have died from or what the cause might be?
They were able to pass an endotrachealtube without resistance, which I would think there wasn't anything chocking him.
He was an indoor cat, I don't believe there are spiders and snakes here, so I don't think that would be the cause.

Your cat may have had an undetected heart problem, an aneurysm which is a weak wall of the artery that tore or a stroke. Unless the vet does a necropsy, it will be unknown. I am so sorry to hear of his passing.

Most sudden, unexplained deaths in young and healthy indoor cats are due to a heart issue or blood clot (which is what a thrombosis is). As many as 20% of cats with heart issues present no symptoms until they suddenly die for no reason. The rest generally have some symptoms - a heart murmur, coughing, fluid in the chest. Those are in a strange way the lucky ones, as if you know there is a problem you can do something about it. But how can you treat a condition that no one can be aware of? I'm very sorry that you lost Sunnie in this way.

You should! This breeder has no right to be giving out unhealthy kittens. But it was probably from the mother which the kittens must have inherited. And I guess the breeder paid no attention. This sounds very unusual for a cat. I would think more likely for a dog. And did you get this dog from a local breeder? One thing, never do that because you never know what will happen! I got my cat from a certified breeder and she couldn't be healthier. I think it's called Kilemn Coon Cats. I don't remember. But I can give you the link to the website:) This is the best website where you can get a cat or a kitten. They were in cat shows and very healthy. Living in a great cat habitat:)

I am so so so so sorry for your loss. My cats are both healthy 2 year old girls and what you describe here is scary. I know that I will lose them someday and the thoughts of that make me feel sad sometimes.
Maybe poisoning? I'm sorry I don't know the answer. I feel sad for you.

Sounds to me like it was more like a stroke.
If you're really not happy with the vet's explanation, I'm sure you could pay to have a necropsy done, but it's expensive.

It could have been a blood clot that suddenly broke loose and caused a stroke or heart attack.
