My husband uses our children to get his parents' approval even if it seems to me to be over the top.?

My husband uses our children to get his parents approval and their attention. If I say anything, he says that I don't like his parents. I do like his parents. I just think that he acts like he is a child trying to get his parents to pay attention to him. I think that some of the things he does and says are a bit strange. Example, he creates little tasks for them to do for their grandchildren just so he has something to talk about with them. It just doesn't seem like a grown up relationship to me.

Why do you care? He's probably learned how to cope with both his and his parents' mental shortcomings. He's trying to have a good relationship with him the best way he knows. Is it sad and pathetic? Maybe. It probably won't ever be an adult relationship. Don't begrudge him it.

My mom's a nutjob, yet still, I want her approval.

It's normal for people to want something of their parents that they may or may not get. We keep trying until they die.

Ummm. You may be overreacting a little bit. What kind of relationship do you have with your parents?
