Should fat people have to pay more to fly on a plane, is it fair or discrimination?
I'm a big guy, not real fat but I am fat and stocky, I weigh 290 pounds and I am 6 feet tall with a lot of muscle but fat as well. I haven't flew since I was 6 years old and went to Germany with my dad who was in the Army and naturally my size wasn't an issue then. Recently I met a girl online and she lives in England and we both have been flying back an forth from the UK and US for the past three years until we recently broke up. I was able to fasten the seat belt every time but it was tight. I also keep the arm rest down also to ensure I am not spilling over into the next person's space. The best flight I had was Virgin Airlines and I had a row of 4 seats all to myself, it was great and a person even came over to these seats and laid down after the flight was in the air. I always am self conscious that I am bothering someone else so I always try to suck in and ensure I am not bothering persons near me. I will be more self conscious after reading this. I have had skinny people constantly knee my seat from behind and let the seat all the way back in the front and pin me in while at the same time I am trying to be cognizant not to impede on anyone else. I will not complain about this because I have always been against affirmative action and feel people should take responsibility for their actions and I do feel it is my fault for lack of self control while eating that I am big. I don't want to be a hypocrite so I will support this policy and try to loose weight although I have had a very difficult time up to this point.

You have to consider fuel consumption. You weigh over 2 and a half times more than myself. Granted, I'm a little on the scrawny side, but you they have to make an exception once you are so far above the average.
The more people are on a plane, the lower the cost of the flight, as the cost to carry everyone's weight as a whole is shared equally between all passengers. If you got to fly for the same price as everyone else on the plane, they would have to pay more to carry your extra weight. This would be bad on a less populated flight.
I'm not saying this is right or wrong - I'm simply telling you the reason they charge you more (since you seem to believe the issue of space is greater). No matter what stance the airlines were to take on this issue, there would always be someone unhappy about the situation.

Anyone's rights, end where my seat begins. Period.
If they are so large, they are spilling over into my seat, then I will have a problem with that, and I will not timidly cower through the flight. I will speak up, and tell them to get themselves into their seat, and out of the one I paid for.
I'm 6'7", and have to pay premium prices for clothing. Should I sue clothing manufacturers because tall sizes cost more than "normal" sizes? After all, height is genetic. A factor of birth. Of course I'm not going to sue them. It costs the clothing manufacturers more to produce those sizes for a minority of the population.
Same with airline seats. They're not one size fits all. It is impractical for an airline to place wider seats on an airliner. They operate at very thin profit margins, so they need to fill the planes with as many seats as reasonably possible. So, if a large parson needs two seats, they need to pay for two seats. Why should the airline give away a free seat?

I say that is discrimination because there must be a series cost for each human being regardless on how fat or skinny you're. I heard before that if you're large sufficient to favor 2 seats then you definately ought to purchase 2 tickets. not in reality is that unfair even though it is also embarrasing.

If an airline is going to charge to check a bag then they should charge for the extra pounds people carry around. Perhaps the airlines need to make a sample seat to see if one spill over to the next seat. lol. Good for you for being conscious and considerate.

If a person is able to fasten their seatbelt, then no, I don't think any 'fat surcharge' should apply. However, if the person is too big even for that to happen then they're obviously the size of two people and should be charged accordingly. There's absolutely no way a person reducing their caloric intake could not lose weight. Calories in < calories burned = weight loss.

ABSOLUTELY... STICK IT TO THEM. I fly a lot and I pay for my ticket the same as they do... but I DON'T SHOVE MY SLOB FAT INTO THEIR SIDE like THEY do. The thing that REALLY scares me when I'm seated next to one of those slobs is, they are so quick to take the belt extender off as soon as the "Seat Belt" light goes off... and that means they are 350 POUNDS OF FAT ready to go bouncing around the cabin is the plane hits heavy weather.
When you buy a seat.. you HAVE A RIGHT TO THE ENTIRE SEAT just as THEY have a right to an entire seat.. but that doesn't include lifting up the center arm rest and using their HUGE FAT THIGHS to SHOVE the person in the next seat into the arm rest.
Some of those people are so HUGE they need THREE seats.

I think, that if a flight is totally booked, and you are in it, you pay for the seats you are permanently going to sit on. Be it one two or three.
In your case when the plane was nearly empty, thats fine, take as many seats as u please.

i'm not a small guy either. i've never been asked to buy an extra seat, but if i was it honestly couldn't be something that i could be mad about. i'm a big, awesome dude, and i have to face all the challenges that come with that... either that or cut back on the donuts.
