New Kitten not eating her food?

Hello, today i got a 9 week old kitten (Sky), and got her vaccinated and tested for a few things, all negative. but she isint eating her food we have given her, and she is only drinking a little milk. We have had her for about 7 hrs and all she has eaten is a little steak (that was in quite small bites so she did not choke)

She is used to eating the dry food that we have given her, so would this be a side effect of the vaccinations? or is this a depression from bbeingsseparatedfrom what she is used to? And what can i do to get her eating again?

Thanks

-Tek

I know you are frustrated . . but she will eat.

If she is accustomed to the dry food, then leave it at that.

The vaccinations will indeed make them lethargic and somewhat melancholy. It is an introduction of a benign form of the very diseases they are intended to protect them from acquiring, so their little bodies are "fighting" the "perceived infection".

Not to worry. Her appetite and vigor will reappear. Until then, let her rest. Make certain she has fresh water available at all times and she will be back to her spunky 7 week old kitten status soon.

Never feed your kitten milk. Give it water only. I got this advice from a vet after having two young cats develop a bacterial infection from milk. I'm not sure where people conceived of the idea that it is safe to give kittens regular milk. Continue offering her the food. She will eat when she's hungry, but do not allow her to go without eating for more than a day or two. If she still won't eat, call the vet.

    Awww how cute!

Give your kitten time to get used to you and her surroundings. She's probably just nervous being in a new environment. And another thing that helps is that you use the same food that she was given before you got her. She may just be a picky eater like my cats.

2 of my cats are picky. One will only eat iams and the other will only eat eukanuba.

i hope it was raw steak. try using canned kitten food. milk isn't the best to be giving your kitty, it could make her have diarrhea.

give her time and space. if nothing else call your vet for tips on how to make your kitty feel comfortable

  • are you feeding her food make for especially for kittens? or you could try changing the food, she might not like them flavors..also if your giving her milk, give her milk made for cats rather than the milk humans drink.

Since these kittenz are new to the OLD WORLD they sometimes eat their poop... make sure u spray it so it can't eat it. Make sure the spray smells like peoples breath.

P.S. They dont always eat their OWN poop...

oh yeah and dont treat your kitten like a dog. They'll bite you and you'll bleed half to death. HAVE FUN!

Maybe she doesn't trust you yet. Try bonding with her like petting her or you could also play with her.
