Why isn't my five week old kitten using the bathroom?
I found a stray kitten yesterday. It looks to be about five weeks old. I've not had this kitten for about 36 hours. It is eating (a mix of kitten formula and soft food). I've not seen it drink any water. I've not been able to see any evidence of it using the bathroom. No pee, no poop. The kitten has been kept in one room so far, so I think I'd find the pee or poop if it was there. Is the kitty okay? What do I do? None of the area vets are open due to the holiday weekend. The cat seems otherwise happy. He plays, he purrs, he curls up with me. Please help.

Hi, at five weeks old try soft kitten food, 3 parts food, 1part water, let it sit to get mushy, if you are concerned that your kitten is not getting enough fluids try using a small medicine shringe, or even a small teaspoon and hand feed him little bits of warm water by holding it's mouth open and pouring tiny amounts, as long as your kitty is getting something, it should be ok, there is another easy method, try using a really warm wet cloth to it's behind and sometimes this will signal a little pee just like humans with hot water! if it appears to be showing signs of sickness maybe it has eaten food outside prior to you finding him or her and maybe it is constipated, and one last resort, run a little bit of water in the sink, nice and warm just enough to stick a paw in the water it usually makes all kittens and cats want to pee, lol sometimes kittens also will pee on news paper if yu have it, because you only just received him maybe he previously was partually trained on paper, i hope i have helped you! best of luck with your little one,

Ok well a kitten that young prolly needs help to pee and poop. You need to take a wet warm wash cloth and gently rub his/her bottom and yea. You should be seeing results. Make sure you so this as offen as possible or it could get sick. Best of luck with the new baby!!

well I think the best you can do for now is give it lots of love and attantion. As for the pee and poop I would just rub its bottom gently with a warm wet towel or cloth, and maybe clean its entire body a little bit just so there are no other problems with it. That's really all you can do for now

You need to get a warm, wet cloth and stimulate the kitten to pee and poop. As gross as it sounds, the mother will stimulate the kitten to pee and poop by licking it's bottom.

ok you need to stimulate the kitten to peep and poop you can do that by getting a warm towel and rub their bottoms lightly until they pee and poop the mother usually does that job but with no mother its your job now do it after feedings

he sounds fine, still, thats very odd and cats can seem fine and be dead within 2 hours... not to scare you, im sure that baby will be alright, but since you really cant get her to the vet or call the vet, just give her lots of love, food and water, and watch closely for pee or poo
