Pro's & Con's of buying this car, PLEASE HELP?

HELP please, I need Pro's & Con's of Buying this car?

I have the opportunity to get '91 Cabriolet for $400 but my husband is worried we wont be able to sell & make a profit. I have told him that the lowest I have ever seen one for sale is for $2000 & that one had a damaged top & over 160K miles on it. This one is pretty & green with a white top. The owner just doesn't want it & isn't interested in making any money his parents bought it new in 91 but just recently gave it to him ( the guy I want to buy it from) & he says its a girly car & is selling it.

I test drove it. It runs great. Its soo cute. I want to buy it & re-sale it at the closest college town but am not sure what to ask for the car. We are in GA. This seems like a great way to make money to me but please give me pros & cons of this deal.

What do you guys ( & Gals) think?

Additional Details

Kelly Blue Book lists 91 VW cabriolet as $2995 in fair condition in my area. But not everybody goes by that.

please give me Pro's & Con's

Additional Details

LOL!! Yes the owner has showed me the title. It is not stolen It is registered with temporary tags good for one month, Please give me pro's & con's for flipping this car!

Update:

The guy selling it is my neighbor. His parents gave him the car, so he has nothing vested in it & would rather puke in his shirt pocket than to drive a "girly" car. LOL So the title is legit.

He just doesn't want it.

I like ya'll's suggestions so far, keep'em coming!

Update 2:

Richard, Honey, you poor thing, the details I Have provided should've let you know that smog regs don't apply down here (this isn't Santa Monica) This is BFE, GA. There are no visible emissions. & WHEN I test drove it even with the top down it ran quiet enough that I could speak in a normal volume & hear my co-pilot. I will provide you with answers if you ask me specific questions but, Darlin', please don't make rude assumptions about what you think I know. Creating a pro's & con's list IS the process of thinking a situation through thoroughly. Or were you suggesting that I re-think being logical?

List it on Craigslist in a college town without photos for $3000 and see if there is any interest in it. If the responses are overwhelming...by all means buy it and flip it!

    Pro

    potential profit

cute fun to drive for a short time before its sold

    great business experience

    personal gratification fullfilling an idea

    Con

Price seems like something is sketchy about the deal

Have to find the buyer in hard economic times.

    19 years old

if it should break down, are parts hard to find or are they expensive

Either way, it is hard to sell a used vehicle, especially one that is 19 years old, and is classified as a girls car. This really limits your buyers.

Lets be honest, don't you think if he could sell it for a profit that he would? You are not looking at the whole picture. How many of these vehicles are there driving around your area? Would you want to buy it for your self? How hard is it to find a mechanic that works on these vehicles? How hard is it to find parts for this car? He has the price low for a reason, he just wants to have it become someone Else's problem. Will it pass smog to allow for a legal transfer of title? Too many questions and you don't have all of the answers. Slow down and take a deep breath and do some serious rethinking.

It relies upon on a great form of issues. in case you are going to purchase it from a broker, make it a huge broker, like an authorized Honda or Toyota broker. no longer Joe's automobiles down the line. or you may desire to purchase from Joe's, yet then get a third occasion to do an entire inspection on the vehicle formerly you purchase it. in case you purchase from a broker you sometimes get some form of assure that the vehicle will final for no less than a month. in case you purchase from somebody, it could get risky. in case you hit upon out that they lied to you, you will might desire to take them to a small claims court docket to get issues discovered, which finally ends up costing greater funds, and you won't even win. to purchase from somebody, you may desire to be attentive to greater approximately automobiles, or take somebody alongside who does, or take the vehicle to a shop for an inspection.

Only a fool would buy it at that price,(2995) bad idea.

You also never said how much mileage is on the car.

I would get the car checked by a mechanic.

400 says to me there is something wrong with it.

get a carfax report too...and if it's as clean as you say it is, and KBB say 2Gs for it...buy it and flip it for...say 1500? heck, if you sell it @ 800 that's 100% profit. i see nothing but pro's here---so you don't sell it. great gas mileage..it isn't august yet, plenty warm, you could drive it around with the rag down.

take it to a mechanic and get a compression test and fluid analysis as well.

  • if its truly $400 and a legitimate sale than its a good idea

    but,

make sure you have a mechanic check it out before you buy it though.. there can always be a problem that youre not aware of and could be costly

remember if its to good to be true it probably isnt

EDIT: make sure its not a slavage title if it is you wont get crap for it
