Clumping litter users - how often do you scoop waste out, and how often do you dump and wash the litter box?

I'm not looking for recommendations on what litter to use or such, I just want simple answers to the questions

Clumping Litter Users -

How often do you scoop waste out of the litter box?

How often do you dump and wash the litter box and fill it with new litter?

Update:

Some are curious as to how I would answer my questions -

I work from a home office so I'm here quite often and the boxes (we have 2 large ones) get scooped, I'd say, up to 5 or 6 times a day.

The boxes get dumped and washed about every month or 3 weeks.

I will decide on what day to dump and wash and a few days before the that, I will not replace litter scooped out as urine clumps to reduce the amount of litter I wind up throwing away.

When I dump them, I wash them with something like Mr. Clean. I don't do it all the time but occasionally I will put some bleach in the rinse water.

I use a brush that is dedicated to scrubbing the boxes and which is rinsed in hot water and often rinsed with some bleach and water.

I purchase a 40 lb bag and put approx 17 lbs in one box and 17 lbs in the other. As the weeks go by, I put the last 6 lbs in each box as needed so it doesn't get too low. I dump all the litter and wash the boxes every 4 weeks. I just use papertowels, Soft Scrub and hot water.

I am a stay at home mom so I am here all the time. I scoop out the boxes (all 4) at least as often as you do. between 3-6 times a day. If one has decided to lay a stink bomb I clean it immediately as I can't stand the smell or knowing its in there.

I dump my boxes about every month unless its really bad, but its not usually that bad. I also do the same as you, the last few days before I'm going to clean it out I let the litter get low so I'm not throwing as much litter away. I use World's Best and at $34 for a bag I don't like to waste it.

I clean my boxes with dawn dish soap and a scrub brush that I bought at dollar tree and designated just for the boxes. Sometimes I use bleach also, but I hate the smell of it. So I usually use the food safe surface spray to sanitize them. I clean my boxes in my bathtub and use a sprayer that is attached to my toilet ( I use cloth diapers ) that I paid about $30 for. Its had many uses besides just rinsing diapers.

I know you don't need recommendations- I've seen your answers, you're quite knowledgeable. =)

Personally, I scoop twice a day at a minimum...Before I leave for work, and before I get in bed at night. My cats really don't care, I'm just paranoid, and like to treat them the best. Haha.

The litter I use is advertised as 'odor control', and so it doesn't smell unless you stick your face right in the box. I know, has nothing to do with the question. Just thought I'd throw it out there, haha.

I do the dump/change probably every two or three weeks, but I wash the whole thing once a month...The 6th of each month, because they also get their HeartGuard meds on that day, and it's also the day I change old contact lenses, so it's easy to remember. =)

You know what? Can I ask YOU a question? Haha. What method do you use to actually clean yours out? I use the bathtub and a designated "litter box only" scrub brush, haha. I also use a small drop of bleach-based cleaning spray, which I know isn't good for many reasons, but they don't like the scent of the dish soap, and I don't want to just use plain old water. I rinse the heck out of it though, scrubbing away any possible bleach residue.

    Any suggestions there? Haha.

Good question though, I'll be interested to see how my methods compare to other answerers'!

I find it's possible to clean litter boxes without dumping out or discarding the clumping clay litter. If litter box smells bad after scooping it, I dump litter to one end of box and spray box with vinegar and wipe with paper towels. I'm not too worried about getting it perfectly dry. The vinegar doesn't leave an odour behind to offend our kitties. The best time to do this is when the litter in the box is getting a bit low. When I'm done cleaning the boxes, I add more new litter.

I scoop twice a day. I don't usually have to dump litter, just add new stuff. Occasionally I may add a bit of baking soda. I always buy the unscented litter unless the store is sold out. (Our cats' feces doesn't have a strong odour since we switched to canned cat food. See catinfo.org for other health benefits).

Favourite non-traditional "tool" - I use a long-handled melamine egg lifter to loosen clumps before I use the litter scoop.

I really like Dr. Pierson's info (see Sources), but I prefer not to use a water and bleach spray.

Important note: clumping litter is dangerous for kittens as they tend to eat it. I have read this and witnessed this behaviour. It is better to start them with something like newspaper pellets.

I clean the litter box twice a day. Once in the morning before work, and once in the evening when I get home. If I were home during the day, I would scoop anytime I saw there was something to scoop. Cleaning the litter box by emptying it and filling with new litter depends on how many cats you have, and if it starts smelling. I try to do it before it stinks.

    Hi there,

Since I work at home, I scoop out the waste several times a day. When I was working outside my home, I scooped twice a day at the very least.

I dump my litter box totally every three weeks. I use a brand of litter that remains very fresh, and a litter box that keeps it fresh. I wash it with dish detergent, and very hot water, after letting it soak for awhile, rinse and dry it and replace it with fresh litter.

I add fresh litter several times a week in between complete changings. I use litter made of corn and it really is easy to maintain.

seems such as you're doing an wonderful activity and understand the cost of preserving them sparkling once you have a small area. i'm a competent "scooper" as i'm around the homestead a great type of the day. i'm going with progression interior the changing of the muddle completely and washing out the packing packing containers with heat, soapy water. observe that a plastic litterbox has basically a pair of two-year life span and might get replaced. micro organism reasons the container to have odors that seep into the packing packing containers. The smell isn't detectable to you and it will to the cats. So considering the fact that your cats are very sturdy approximately employing their packing packing containers and you with preserving them scooped and sparkling get new packing packing containers in some situations and you will in no way have problems.

I have 3 boxes, and three cats. I find I only need to scoop once or twice a day.

I dump once a month and wash with hot water and white vinegar.
