Born January 2, 1952 - yes, I'm that old :-) We are in the St. Louis, Missouri, USA area. We have a few cats. Simon, my best buddy, was diagnosed with diabetes on February 26, 2000. Since then we have adopted 3 more diabetic cats. Our site about Feline Diabetes is at http://www.sugarcatsimon.com That URL will redirect you to the current address http://sugarcat_simon.home.att.net We will be moving the site one of these days so that only http://www.sugarcatsimon.com will be correct.

  • Can you, via JavaScript or such, prevent dragging and dropping into a textarea or an Input with type=text?

Is there a way, to prevent a user from dragging and dropping something into a textarea or an input field with type=text

I've searched around - for quite a while - tried some things I've found but have not succeeded in preventing a drop.

I can prevent user enter in the item by using the onFocus to call blur() but I can't prevent a drop.

I did find an article on MDC but it speaks to configuring your browser, not doing something to prevent dropping on a web page you are creating.

    That is at https://developer.mozilla.org/en/Mozill ... support.3f

Another question - is there a way to make an image a drop target? I want to do it to trigger the drag/drop events and then handle whatever is dropped myself.

Another - If a user drags and drops something to a textarea or input type=text, is there a way to cause the dropped text (or whatever) to replace everything that is already in the textarea of input type=text. I've tried a few things but the dropped text is always added to the existing text, at the point the cursor is when you release the mouse button to do the drop.

I want to totally prevent a user from highlighting something on the web page and then dragging it and dropping it into particular textareas or input field with type=text

By default,, almost all browsers let you do this. On a web page with a text input area, highlight some text and drag it to the input area and drop it - the text should be added to the input areal.

  • What's it mean if you go to a profile & get "Oops The information you are looking for is not available"?

Does that mean the user's account has been deleted? Does it mean the user has marked their profile as private? Just what does it mean?

The times I've encountered this are when I was checking to see what other questions or answers a troll may have posted.

  • Is there any downside to connecting with someone who has connected with you?

If someone connects with you, are there an potential problems if you go ahead and connect with them?

About 12 people have connected with me and I'm still not quite sure of the advantages and disadvantages of connecting with them.

  • People say they won't go to a vet because it would cost too much, what do you think costs would be?

Far too many people say that won't take a cat to the vet because it will be too expensive and they can't afford it.

    Let's do a reality check.

Everyone, regardless of your views on costs, regardless of whether you are inclined to not take a cat to the vet because you think it will cost too much or you take you cat to the vet and deal with cost later, please answer the following questions for me.

How much do you think a basic office visit would cost?

How much do you think a yearly checkup with basic blood work would cost?

How much do you think it would cost to deal with ear mites on a cat?

How much would you expect to pay for diagnostics to find out why a cat is losing weight?

How much would you expect to pay to treat a cat with a Urinary Tract Infection?

  • Has anyone ever had, or heard of, a cat who tries to knead with all four paws at the same time?

Our Tanner has begun trying to knead with all four paws at the same time and he is having a lot of trouble doing it - as I would have expected.

He gets in a cat bed and begins kneading one side of the bed with his front paws and then tries to knead on the other side of the bed with his back paws.

He will get it right for one or two motions and then he gets out of sync and falters with his back paws.

If he concentrates on his back paws, he can get a fairly good motion set up but looses it when he tries to resume kneading with this front paws.

Has anyone ever seen or heard of another cat who tries to do this?

If so, was the cat able to do it very well?

I have never seen another cat even try to knead with all four paws at the same time and we have had, counting Tanner, 26 cats over the past 22 years.

Perhaps it takes a newer model cat with Full Time 4Paw Kneading to be able to successfully do this?

Tanner is 3 years old, he's a 2006 DSH. Maybe that option wasn't available when he was born.

Or maybe it was only available on models constructed at the main factory. Tanner was a feral, constructed on-site in a storage shed in the back lot of a business.

Has anyone heard if the 2010 or 2011 model cats will have this Full Time 4Paw Kneading feature?

Is there any after market accessory I can get for Tanner to implement the Full Time 4Paw Kneading feature?

Seriously - has anyone ever seen or heard of this? A cat trying to knead with all four paws at once???

  • Has anyone shipped a cat from the UK to the USA - People who have shipped the cat, NOT traveled with the cat.?

There is a one eyed cat somewhere in the UK who DESPERATELY needs a new home - see the question at http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=200907...

The Asker posted the same question twice, here is the URL of the second one http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=Ajs08...

This cat is forced to live on the third floor of the home with little if any contact with the people and --- well, read the question for yourself.

We are in the USA and if the cat were on the USA mainland, I would be making arrangements to get it to us. I would either drive to wherever the cat is or contact a lot of people I know around the country to see about setting up a "Pony Express" transport where multiple drivers would drive short sections of the route to move the cat closer and closer to its new home, step by step

Since the cat is in the UK and the Atlantic Ocean is between the USA and the UK, I can't very well drive there to get the cat.

I am now trying to find out how much it would cost to have the cat shipped from the UK to us here in the USA.

Has anyone ever shipped a cat from the UK to the USA? I know that many people have traveled with their cats and have taken their cats onto the aircraft with them, but I need information from people who have shipped their cat as cargo without accompanying it on the aircraft.

If the owners of the cat cannot or will not take the cat to the airport, I need a company that will pick up the cat and take care of getting it to the airport and on its way to the USA and, will, hopefully, have people at this end to take care of entry requirements - which for the USA are very straight forward and easy to take care of.

I need to know approximate prices, names of companies that do this sort of shipping, and anything else you think would be of help to me and anything you would do differently if you had to do it again.

Please help me figure out how to move this cat from the UK to the St. Louis, Missouri, USA area.

    Thanks in advance.

    Bob

  • How do Yahoo "contacts" work as regards Yahoo Answers?

    I am re-posting this question ----

Could anyone explain, completely, about "contacts" as they relate to Yahoo Answers?

Yahoo Answers is the only feature I ever use on Yahoo.

If I get an email saying that so-and-so has connected to me, exactly what does that mean and what happens if I do not connect to them or if I do connect to them?

What does connecting to someone who has connected to me do? What does it allow them to do or what does it allow me to do?

Is connecting to people who connected you a wise thing to do or should you check them out beforehand?

If you should check them out, what do you look for?

    ------------

When I originally posted this question, only had one person answered the question and they said:

"your contacts are contacted by e-mail with any question you post on yahoo answers"

What does that mean? Do my contacts get an email each time I ask a question or answer a question?

Are there any dangers in connecting to someone who connects to you?

  • What cats do people think of as NOT being "rescue" cats?

Please read my question and all of the answers at http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=Aj6zi... before you continue reading this.

Given the use of the word "rescue" as it was defined in answers to my other question, what cats are NOT "rescue" cats.

    8 AnswersCats1 decade ago
  • What do people mean when they refer to a cat as a "rescue"?

I'm asking about the use of the word "rescue" as an adjective to describe the noun "cat"

Just as you might use another adjective, for instance a color, like this "I have a gray cat.

What is meant by the adjective "rescue", as in -

"I adopted a rescue cat." or

"All of my cats are rescue cats." or

"You should adopt a rescue cat"

What are the attributes that people associate with a "rescue" cat.

When do you refer to a cat as a "rescue" cat?

  • Clumping litter users - how often do you scoop waste out, and how often do you dump and wash the litter box?

I'm not looking for recommendations on what litter to use or such, I just want simple answers to the questions

    Clumping Litter Users -

How often do you scoop waste out of the litter box?

How often do you dump and wash the litter box and fill it with new litter?

  • Did you see the question about the cat being dumped because it attack "ani's" daughter?

Look at the question at http://answers.yahoo.com/question /index?qid=20090603102916AA3E67V&r=w#GqV6LUXOLzQeykeUyLbN

Then look at the question at http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=Ap8fw...

The first question says that the cat attacked the daughter and the father threw the cat out of the house. The wife apparently talked him into letting it back in but she has three days to get rid of it and she says she doesn't trust it any more.

The second question I referred to above is about the kitten having been thrown down the stairs a month ago by the daughter.

A month ago the daughter threw the kitten down the stairs and now the cat attacked the daughter (we don't know what "attacked" means here) and they are going to get rid of the cat and kitten.

What do you think of this situation? What advice would you give to this person?

  • Has anyone one been following the news about flea treatments?

There are quite a few news reports about over-the-counter flea treatments sickening and killing cats and dogs.

Fontline, Advantage, and Revolution don't seem to be involved. Just the spot treatments being made by other companies.

Personally, there is enough out there to make me even more sure to use only Frontline, Advantage, or Revolution on our cats.

Does anyone have any first hand experience with other products causing problems?

    Here's a Google News link http://news.google.com/news?hl=en&num=50&q=flea%20...

  • Does anyone know the average time to reach level 5?

I just reached level 5 today, having started on January 29, 2009

Has anyone ever heard anything about average time to reach the various levels?

I will probably be leaving Yahoo Answers now. I decided a few days ago that when I hit 5,000 points and level 5, I'd quit since this can be almost addictive and you can really waste a lot of time that you should be doing other things with.

  • What is the average time to reach Level 5?

I started answering questions in the Cats section on January 29, 2009 and today I topped 5,000 and am at Level 5 - took me a bit under 4 months to get there.

I'm curious as to the average time people take to get to level 5.

I decided a few days ago that when I topped 5,000 and got to Level 5, I'd leave Yahoo Answers - it is just too damn addicting and you can really waste a lot of time at it.

  • What is the title of the Science Fiction book about comet dust falling to Earth and disabling machinery?

I read a book many years ago - say around 40 years ago - about commet dust that fell to earth and disabled all machinery by welding together anything that moved.

Any moving device, bearings, motors, etc. were welded together when they moved with the comet dust being present.

They finally developed a device that "swept" the atmosphere to cause the comet dust to fall out of the atmosphere where it was collected.

I don't remember the author or the title.

Does anyone have any idea of the title or author of this book?

  • Does anyone have actual, first hand knowledge of any medical problems caused by clumping litter?

Please read this in its entirety before you respond!

I am not looking for references to information on the internet about supposed dangers of using clumping litter with cats or kittens.

I want only personal experience where you had a cat or kitten get sick or die because of clumping litter and there was quantitative evidence that clumping litter was the cause.

Again - I'm not looking for references on the internet or in the literature about the supposed dangers of clumping litter.

Only reply if you have first hand, personal experience of problems with a cat or kitten caused by clumping litter.

I am not looking for anecdotal evidence, I am looking for solid objective evidence of a problem.

  • Does Feliway work on urination that is not urine spray marking but is simply the emptying of the cat's bladder?

I know that Feliway is intended to mimic, or it might actually be, feline pheromones to control where a cat will urine mark.

My question is does Feliway have any effect on urination outside the litter box which is merely urination, not territorial urine spray marking?

Will it help stop a cat from urinating outside the litter box when the urinating is not the marking of territory but simply the emptying of the cat's bladder?
