What cats do people think of as NOT being "rescue" cats?

Please read my question and all of the answers at http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=Aj6zi... before you continue reading this.

Given the use of the word "rescue" as it was defined in answers to my other question, what cats are NOT "rescue" cats.

Update:

I am asking which cats you do NOT refer to as "rescue" cats, not which cats ARE "rescue" cats.

Please read the other question and answers to see what people are saying about which cats ARE "rescue" cats.

Given the types of cats that people are calling "rescue" cats, I'm asking this question to find out which cats people consider to NOT BE "rescue" cats.

I have several cats I have rescued...

NOT FROM A LITTER FROM A FRIEND or pet shop or bough.

    1. was a homeless mom who I allowed to have her kittens at my house then I kept one of the kittens / had her fixed / c section and found her a home.

    2. was a cat that was going to go to the pound because the people were alergic (hes' 15 now)

    3. was from a rescue group... he was in a horders house as a kitten.

    rescue is a broad word.

My definition of a rescue cat is one who was taken out of a bad situation and put into a good one. A cat who was bought from a reputable breeder would not be a rescue but one that was seized from a kitten mill would be. All strays, shelter cats, cats from neglective or abusive homes, or who were about to be turned in to a shelter by their clueless owner would be rescues once they are placed in a good home.

    Not rescued:

    from a reputable breeder

    obtained from a friend's cat's litter

taken in by friend or family when the original owner died

purposely bred from one's own cat and kept as a pet

a stray/shelter/abandoned cat that was taken in and NOT cared for any better ie: NOT spayed/neutered, NOT vetted, NOT kept indoors. Simply taking in a cat does not make one a rescuer. Rescue means the cat's life was made better.

I answered/read your other one yesterday, so I won't go back and look.

But again, it's generally just a personal opinion, but I consider any cat that is bred (whether on purpose or not on purpose) and determined to be specifically for selling and making money to NOT be a rescue cat.

Technically, you'd be rescuing that cat too, but when people go out of their way to undermine you, and others are stupid enough to pay big money for a special purebred cat when there are plenty of "rescues" awaiting homes, then I just can't label them as a "rescue".

If you want to think about it logically, from what I mentioned in my "rescue" comment yesterday, then ALL cats are rescues because you're taking them from a bad situation and making it better for them. (in most cases).

Source(s): I worked in a Humane Society animal shelter, (volunteered there for 8 years, still volunteer currently) trained with a veterinary doctor, worked in the New York ASPCA, & I've got two young male, neutered cats.

It's not a rescue cat if you bought it from the person who owned its mother. Or if you took it over from a friend who couldn't look after it any more.

Pet store or breeder (any type, even reputable) purchased. When it provides profit to an individual, and isn't being done to save the cat's life, I feel that is the opposite of rescue.

    huh.

Well I'm confused. I always considered my cat Princess to be a rescue. We got her when my BF's step-brother told us he wasn't feeding her and put her outside (Front declawed). Then his GF told us when we went to pick her up (I got off work and we went straight over to find her) that he had been slamming the cat into the wall. When I got her home we realized her tooth had been broken due to it. She's 11yrs old...

We weren't really looking for a cat, but we both knew if she was left in that situation she'd die.

store bought or ones gotten from breeders. Free to good home ads...

  • I think all cats r rescue cats b/c if they dont get bought they end up rescue cats ne way
