Has anyone shipped a cat from the UK to the USA - People who have shipped the cat, NOT traveled with the cat.?

There is a one eyed cat somewhere in the UK who DESPERATELY needs a new home - see the question at http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=200907...

The Asker posted the same question twice, here is the URL of the second one http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=Ajs08...

This cat is forced to live on the third floor of the home with little if any contact with the people and --- well, read the question for yourself.

We are in the USA and if the cat were on the USA mainland, I would be making arrangements to get it to us. I would either drive to wherever the cat is or contact a lot of people I know around the country to see about setting up a "Pony Express" transport where multiple drivers would drive short sections of the route to move the cat closer and closer to its new home, step by step

Since the cat is in the UK and the Atlantic Ocean is between the USA and the UK, I can't very well drive there to get the cat.

I am now trying to find out how much it would cost to have the cat shipped from the UK to us here in the USA.

Has anyone ever shipped a cat from the UK to the USA? I know that many people have traveled with their cats and have taken their cats onto the aircraft with them, but I need information from people who have shipped their cat as cargo without accompanying it on the aircraft.

If the owners of the cat cannot or will not take the cat to the airport, I need a company that will pick up the cat and take care of getting it to the airport and on its way to the USA and, will, hopefully, have people at this end to take care of entry requirements - which for the USA are very straight forward and easy to take care of.

I need to know approximate prices, names of companies that do this sort of shipping, and anything else you think would be of help to me and anything you would do differently if you had to do it again.

Please help me figure out how to move this cat from the UK to the St. Louis, Missouri, USA area.

Thanks in advance.

Bob

Update:

Sue,

I know she might be trolling or is a brat, as you put it. However, the room/area in which the cat is shown in that video clip http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6ukn2JvEXB8&feature... does appear to be fairly empty and it sounds empty - you can hear the sound bouncing off the walls - echos, as the person puts it. That fits in with what she said about the cat.

It does appear that the cat's surgery was either very badly done or the eye and surrounding tissue was in very bad shape when the surgery was done - which would fit in with someone not caring for the cat properly and letting a condition get really bad before taking it to the vet.

I do believe that this cat is not being cared for properly and that it will not hurt to find out just what it would take to get the cat to us.

Have you actually shipped a cat from the UK to somewhere in the USA?

If so, what company did you use or did you go directly through an airline

Yes and you are looking at around $1000.

The original question is not one to take seriously and there is no reason a one eyed cat couldn't get adopted in the UK. Cats Trust, wood green or Blue cross would have no problem.

I know several cats with one eye (& I have one myself) and they have no ongoing problems and if the Vet did a decent job they just look like they have one eye closed.

I think the OP was a child or maybe brat would be a better description.

Source(s): Run a boarding cattery and show cats in UK. Have exported and imported cats.
