All diabetics CAN eat sugar. We all have to watch our carb intake. The refined sugar we can have has to be in small amounts and not every day.
I believe that the only type of diabetic who can not eat some amount of sugar is a dead diabetic, the same as everyone else.

Every living being needs sugar in order to survive, it is the energy for the body and food for the brain.
Diabetics just need to be careful about how much they intake and of what kind. Refined sugar isn't really good for anyone.

For clarification, sugar is a carbohydrate. And we can eat sugar. In fact, our bodies need sugar in order to survive.
Our goal is to limit our total carbohydrates (including sugar) to a level that our body can tolerate. This is determined by how much insulin is available and how insulin resistant we are. Insulin is what allows our bodies to utilize sugar. There are two types of diabetes. Type ones have to inject insulin as their body no longer produces it. Type twos generally still produce insulin, but have to watch their carb intake as it is converted to glucose and our cells cannot absorb the glucose very well so it builds up in the blood. All sorts of nasty things can result from that buildup. So the answer is, all types of diabetics can eat sugar... we need it to survive. Our job is to see that we don't get so much in our system that it builds up to unacceptable levels in our blood.
